Police release Peoples Gazette reporters
PUNCH Metro has confirmed the release of some correspondents and staff members of an online newspaper, Peoples Gazette, from police custody. In a telephone interview with our correspondent, Friday evening, the publisher of Peoples Gazette, Samuel Ogundipe, confirmed that the arrested journalists and other staff members were released unconditionally around 6 pm. Ogundipe said, “I can confirm that our reporters and other staff members that were arrested earlier by the police have been released unconditionally. “Unfortunately, rather than going to court, Buratai decided to intimidate our reporters and staff members by sending policemen to our head office. When our correspondent reached out to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, the police spokesperson also confirmed that the arrested journalists and staff members of Peoples Gazette had been released.

Ogun inducts 22 trade subject delivery officers for schools
The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Board (TVET) has inducted 22 Trade Subject Delivery Officers (TSDOs), to empower students with the relevant skills needed to be self-sustainable and job creators. This is in a bid to improve qualitative teaching and learning of trade subjects across secondary schools in Ogun. The policy stipulates that every secondary school student must offer at least, one trade subject, among other things. Odemuyiwa charged the inductees to complement government’s effort by ensuring seamless implementation and effective coordination of qualitative technical and vocational education. They said that it would further help in enhancing the teaching and learning of vocational education across schools.

Pension operators invest N1.99tn via bank placement
Pension funds fixed in bank placements rose by N520.25bn from N1.64tn as of the end of April 2021 to N1.99tn as of the end of April 2022. Figures obtained from the National Pension Commission on ‘Unaudited report on pension funds industry portfolio for the period ended 30 April 2022; Approved Existing Schemes, Closed Pension Fund Administrators and RSA funds (Including unremitted contributions @Cbn & Legacy Funds)’, showed that the total pension funds stood at N13.76tn as of the end of February. According to PenCom, bank placement is one of the approved investment portfolios allowed by the Pension Fund Administrators to invest the Contributory Pension funds to earn interest. According to the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria, the CPS which Nigeria currently practices has inbuilt checks and balances embedded into the system. The custody of all the pension funds are held with separate and independent entities – the Pension fund Custodians.

Nwakali joins Spain’s Ponferradina
Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has accepted a contract from Spanish second division side SD Ponferradinha, the club announced on Thursday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
