Gunmen, on Saturday morning, kidnapped a ranking official of the Niger Delta Development Commission. The victim, Kingsley Okorafor, was abducted at his home town at Umuadara Umulogho autonomous community in the Obowo Local Government Area of Imo state. The abduction, our correspondent learnt, had unsettled the villagers, as the people now live in a state of panic. Confirming the incident, the Traditional Ruler of the community, Patrick Uwalaka, said the development was unfortunate. The spokesman for the police in the state, Micheal Abattam, had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the abduction.

Two Catholic priests, reverend fathers John Mark Cheitnum, and Donatus Cleopas were, over the weekend, kidnapped by terrorists in Kaduna State. Okolo said: “it is with great pain that we announce to you the kidnapping of two of our priests; Rev. “We solicit for intense prayer for their quick and safe release, we equally wish to call on all and sundry to refrain from taking the laws into their hands. “We will use every legitimate means to ensure their quick and safe release,” the Catholic chancellor said. “May Jesus crucified on the Cross listen to our prayers and hasten the unconditional release of His priests and all other kidnapped persons.”The unfortunate kidnapped of the two priests happened a few weeks after three Catholic priests were abducted in the state.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday, successfully underwent a surgical procedure on his femur at the Duchess International Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos. According to a statement released late Saturday by the hospital management and signed by its Medical Director, Dr Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi, the procedure was performed by a team comprising of six specialist Doctors. The statement is titled ‘Successful medical treatment of the Vice President’. It read, “The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, was admitted to the Duchess International Hospital GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, today on account of a fracture of his right femur (thigh bone), possibly related to a longstanding injury associated with a game of squash. “I have been admitted today at the hospital for a surgical procedure on account of a recurrent pain in the leg possibly sustained from an injury while playing squash,” he wrote.

Lekan Badmus was caught with thumb-printed ballot papers at ward 2 Osogbo local government, the commissioner for special duties has described the claim as untrue. “I am a man of integrity who believes in hard work and not cheap means to success. The claim that I was, by extension, involved in electoral malpractice contradicts the value I stand for. “Members of the public are hereby urged to disregard any claim or accusation of sorts suggesting that I and the people working with me were involved in electoral fraud.”

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, a four-week film training by the Africa Movie Academy, AMA, under the Film In A Box project came to an end at the Alimosho local council, Lagos State. The film training, which is a brainchild of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe led AMA, had star actor Keppy Ekpeyong and film director Achor Yusuf training over 200 young Nigerians with aspirations to become part of the Nigerian film industry. I think Alimosho managed to change the facilitators, because we have evolved people who have become what they want to be. The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has written the state House of Assembly seeking approval for N100 billion loan. The loan facility, according to him, will be for the construction and refurbishment of key infrastructure in the state. The lawmakers, thereafter, passed the state 2022 Revised Appropriation Bill of N169.6bn. While presenting the report, one of the lawmakers representing the Anambra East Constituency, Mr Emeneka, said the revised budget was made up of N108bn capital expenditure and N61.3bn recurrent expenditure. A polytechnic lecturer, Yohanna Mbudai Bzegu, has been shot dead in Adamawa State, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. Bzegu, a lecturer with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, was shot dead in the early hours of Thursday at his Bajabure residence, behind Anglican Junior Seminary, a satellite town on the outskirt of Yola, the state capital. The assailants reportedly broke into his house and fired multiple shots into his chest and watched him breathe his last, while his wife looked haplessly. A source close to the family who pleaded anonymity said the attackers, gained entrance into their residence at about 3:00 am. However, while his two teenage sons died instantly, the cleric did not; although his attackers abducted his 13-year-old daughter, who has since regained freedom after an undisclosed sum of money was paid to her abductors as ransom.
