In August, the CBN released its financial accounts for the years 2016 to 2022 amid an ongoing probe of the financial services sector regulator by a Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu. Aside from the CBN, the Special Investigator is also investigating the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, FRC and other Government Business Entities. According to findings by The PUNCH, the CBN Special Investigator is working with a team of accountants, auditors, and forensic accountants to carry out the investigation. Also, the Special Investigator and his team are expected to question officials of the FRC for allegations bothering on the controversial accounting guidelines used by the CBN, among other issues. Tinubu had on July 28 directed the CBN Special Investigator to work with security and anti-corruption agencies to provide a comprehensive report on public wealth currently in the hands of corrupt individuals and establishments, whether private or public.

About 10,000 people are missing after the devastating flooding in Libya, said the head of the Libya office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Development Bank of Nigeria says it plans to disburse N150 billion to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises across the country. Nnanna said that the disbursement would be done through participating financial institutions for onward lending to MSMEs across various sectors of the economy. “By and large we have seen some growth across the MSME space because we measure the job creation levels of the money we disburse through our participating financial institutions. The United States President, Joe Biden, who met with President Bola Tinubu, Sunday, on the sidelines of the G20 in New Delhi, India, said the meeting was to reaffirm the country’s commitment to the US-Nigeria relationship. Biden said his administration was committed to the longstanding friendship between both countries and peoples. Four people died near Barcelona after being hit by a suburban train, authorities made this known on Monday. Initially, the Civil Protection Agency had reported three dead and one injured in Sunday night’s accident but later it said in a post on social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The fourth person dead was the injured person who died in the hospital. A group of seven people had tried to cross the tracks near Montmeló station, within the Barcelona metropolitan area, when it was already dark in an area where crossing isn’t allowed. Accidents occur often when people try to cross the tracks instead of using pedestrian underpasses in suburban areas of Spain.

India formally handed over the G20 presidency to Brazil at the closing ceremony of the annual summit of the grouping, that was held in New Delhi this weekend. India Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed the transition by handing over the ceremonial gavel of the presidency to Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. India has had the presidency of the G20 since Dec. 1, when it took over from Indonesia, and will continue to hold the position until Nov. 30. During the two-day summit, the bloc adopted a consensus declaration that made commitments on several issues, including food and energy security, climate change, and global debt vulnerabilities. “In that session, we can review the topics decided during this summit,” Modi said, adding that details would be shared with members.
