Angel Guardian, Kelvin Miranda, and Faith da Silva join ‘Encantadia’ spin-off ‘Sang’gre’
MANILA, Philippines – GMA introduced on Friday, October 27, the headliners for Sang’gre, the highly-anticipated spin-off series of Encantadia. Angel Guardian, Kelvin Miranda, and Faith da Silva will be joining Bianca Umali as the four new Sang’gre in the upcoming fantasy series. Umali was earlier announced as Terra, the daughter of Sang’gre Danaya, who was played by Diana Zubiri in the original Encantadia series and Sanya Lopez in the remake. The show will revolve around a young woman, who happens to be the long-lost daughter of Sang’gre Danaya, as she starts discovering her own superpowers. It follows four sisters or sang’gre, played by Iza Calzado, Sunshine Dizon, Karylle, and Diana Zubiri, as they control their powers and manage their kingdom.

Nigeria calls for humanitarian ceasefire in Israel-Hamas war
The Federal Government of Nigeria reiterated on Saturday its call for an immediate and sustained humanitarian truce between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza. Yusuf Tuggar urged parties in the conflict to uphold the fundamental values of human rights and international humanitarian law, which place a premium on ensuring civilians’ safety and well-being even in times of conflict. According to the statement, Nigeria also called on the Israeli government “to grant humanitarian access to the millions of people that have been displaced since the crisis broke. “The lack of water, food, medical supplies and fuel shortages have compounded the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.”The minister called on all parties involved to immediately agree to a ceasefire and engage in diplomatic negotiations to resolve the conflict. “Both parties are urged to exercise utmost restraint and prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians.

Kano govt to pay N6bn death benefits, pension gratuity next week
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has announced that the government has allocated a substantial sum of N6 billion to make partial payments towards the death benefits and pension gratuity owed to more than 5,500 retired civil servants in the state. The beneficiaries of these benefits will primarily be retirees at lower grade levels, with amounts ranging from N1 million downwards. “I am constantly thinking about the issue of gratuities for retired civil servants. During these meetings, we decided to start by paying those with lower grade levels whose entitlements have not exceeded N1 million or are just slightly above N1 million, down to around N150,000 or N250,000. Governor Yusuf has also reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of both current workers and retired civil servants in the state.

People living with disabilities lament palliatives delay
Northern Nigeria Disability Forum has expressed dissatisfaction over the continued delay in releasing government palliatives to its members. He disclosed that they had not heard any provision or an agency that they could meet to apply for palliatives as persons with disabilities. Chuanoemoh, who disclosed this in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, stated that PLWDs members had not received palliatives up to this moment. Zamfara: Bandits after emir’s life kill five, market shut
The Emir of Maru in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Abubakar Maigari, escaped lynching when bandits in large numbers invaded his palace in an attempt to kill him. Bawa said, “The bandits invaded the Emir’s Palace and opened fire sporadically in an attempt to kill the Emir but he escaped mysteriously. They killed one of the palace guards and damaged all the vehicles in that place. Eagles maintain 40th position in FIFA rankings
Despite recording a win and a draw in their last friendly games during the international break, their only games since the last FIFA world rankings in September, Nigeria remained unmoved in the latest FIFA men’s rankings for October, The PUNCH reports. Though the Super Eagles gained 1.62 points in the month under review to take their total point to 1490.48, they, however, maintained their position at 40th place. Still, the results did not have much effect on their position on the rankings table. The major reason for this drop was suggested to be their non-participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. They ranked 29 in the previous rankings but in the update released by FIFA on Thursday, they now occupy the 32nd position in the world.

Polaris Bank, in partnership with Evolve Charity, has said the girl-child impacts society positively. A statement by the bank said in support of the ‘Girl-Child Education Project’, Polaris Bank, in partnership with Evolve Charity, a non-profit organisation, presented educational materials to more than 400 students in Ikeja and Surulere areas of Lagos State. The donated materials which include; school uniforms, school bags, pens, sandals, and various books, were presented to the students of both Opebi Junior Secondary School, Opebi, Ikeja Lagos, Gbaja Junior Girls High School, and Gbaja Senior Girls High School, at their school premises in Surulere. The initiative was part of activities marking the United Nations Children’s Fund International Day of the Girl.
