Naira weakens to 1,180
The naira commenced trading on a weaker level after trading at 1,180/$ on Monday from 1,150/$ on Friday at the parallel market. Figures obtained from AbokiFx showed that the naira was bought and sold for 1,170/$ and 1,180/$ on Monday, a difference of N30 or 2.5 per cent. The President, Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria, Dr Aminu Gwadabe, noted that the naira strengthened to the dollar at the parallel market at the end of last week. At the Investor & Exporter forex window, naira commenced trading at 794.70/$ and hit a high of 998/$ before closing at 993.82/$ on Monday. Total turnover recorded at the official market was $88.31m on Monday, according to the FMDQ.

Sly review – dull Stallone Netflix documentary pulls every punch
It’s a pleasing narrative, but it’s also a dull and incomplete one that betrays a hindering obsequiousness in director Thom Zimny. Any rough edges that threaten to make Stallone into a more complicated – and, ultimately, compelling – figure have been dutifully sanded to a nub. As the closest he comes to allowing himself to be portrayed in anything less than a flattering light, he divulges that he regrets pouring so much time that could’ve been spent spent with family into his work. That savviness about image management works against the film as Stallone cordons off the aspects of his persona that he finds uncomfortable or disagreeable. Sly condenses that spirit of brazen self-promotion while cloaking it with faux circumspection, pitching a sanitized, often convincing commercial for Stallone as product in place of the man himself.

E-ticketing will increase railway revenue, says minister
He said the platform was launched to improve access to transportation services, end ticket racketeering and eliminate revenue leakage. He revealed that the e-ticketing platform would take effect from November 1st, 2023 and can be accessed via https://nrc.tps.ng. “I am so happy about this project, apart from the fact that e-ticketing will end issues of ticket racketeering, it will also increase the revenue from the routes. This means by the time e-ticketing commences, there is a likelihood that our revenue will increase. The NRC DG restating his commitment to end unethical practices revealed that 14 persons have been heavily sanctioned for ticket racketeering.

ILO condemns Hamas attack on Israel, backs UN Sec-General’s call for ceasefire, release of hostages

Chinese loan rises by $800m in one year, hits $4.73bn
The first loan project was for the Nigerian Communications Satellite project with $200m agreed on January 12, 2006. The third loan was for the Nigerian railway modernisation project (Wu- Kaduna section) with $500m agreed on December 20, 2010, and disbursed. Only the 15th loan project was presented in Chinese Renminbi Yuan. Regarding repayments, The PUNCH observed that within the period under review, Nigeria serviced Chinese loans with $263.14m. Judge reinstates Trump’s gag order in election subversion case
A federal judge has reinstated a limited gag order on former President Donald Trump in his 2020 presidential election subversion case. An hour after the news emerged, Trump called the judge “Trump hating”. The gag order “will put me at a disadvantage against my prosecutorial and political opponents”, he said in a post on his Truth Social social media account. Trump’s legal team had also asked Judge Chutkan to recuse herself from the case, arguing past comments she had made created a perception of bias against him.
