Labour suspends strike after meeting NSA
Just a few minutes after meeting with the National Security Adviser, AIG Nuhu Ribadu, the organised labour in Nigeria has suspended the nationwide strike, which commenced on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, to protest the brutalisation of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in Owerri, the Imo state capital. Blueprint gathered that the decision to suspend the action was reached at an emergency visual joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC). The NEC, in session, agreed to suspend the industrial action following a plea by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu . The organised Labour had earlier held a meeting with the NSA who begged the workers to end the industrial action to allow for amicable resolution to the issues. A source at the joint NEC meeting of the organised Labour told Blueprint that workers agreed to give Malam Ribadu benefit of doubt as he pledged to resolve the impasse.

Saudi-bound passengers’ visas were verified, says Air Peace
The management of Air Peace has said that the visas of all the 264 passengers that it conveyed to Saudi Arabia recently were verified, despite the revocation of the visas of 177 of them by authorities in foreign nations. The visas of the 177 passengers were cancelled after all the 264 travellers from Nigeria landed in Jeddah on Monday. We are not limited to UMRAH or HAJJ visas alone on a scheduled flight. “The visas of all passengers on the said flight to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia were checked and verified through the requisite procedures and were vetted to be valid before departure. “No form of cancellation from the Saudi authorities was received against these passengers despite the live transmission of their details,” Air Peace stated.

Turkish President Erdogan declares Israel terrorist state
The President of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan, tagged Israel a terrorist state during an address before the Turkish Parliament on Wednesday. Erdogan is one of the world leaders who has been vocal against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza since the conflict started in October. I am now saying, with my heart at ease, that Israel is a terror state,” he said in the televised address. His statement is in sharp contrast to the rhetoric of several other world leaders, especially in the West. In his speech, Erdogan tackled the Western allies, especially the United States, stating that they were still seeing the conflict in “backward” terms.

Visa Cancellation: Passengers didn’t fulfil entry requirements — Saudi embassy

Ogun student arrested for poisoning girlfriend
A final-year student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Oladokun Ayomide, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly poisoning his girlfriend, Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu, and another lady, Odumosu Semilore. PUNCH Metro gathered that while leaving for the suspect’s residence, Mmasichukwu told her schoolmate, Semilore, to accompany her to her boyfriend’s place at Surulere community, Camp, Abeokuta. Contacted, the Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, told our correspondent that the victims were responding to treatment, adding that further investigation was going on to unravel the circumstances behind the incident. “A foil paper pack used for the brownie cake was found when our officers visited the crime scene. The suspect was handed over to the police division by the Chief Security Officer of the school,” Odutola stated on Tuesday.

The National Assembly complex in Abuja has been finally shut down by organised labour groups in protest of the manhandling of the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero. The Guardian observed that the entire gates leading to the National Assembly complex was under lock and key as of 9:00 am today. However, the Presidential villa gate which connects the National Assembly complex remained open for security personnel and other essential workers. As at the time of filling in this report, the management of the National Assembly is yet to speak on the matter. On Tuesday the complex witnessed a partial strike with motorists and staff stranded for several hours.
