Rugby Championship: All Blacks v Argentina. Phil Walter/Getty Images Openside flanker Sam Cane will lead the All Blacks in their first test of 2023. "There is always a sense of how much are they [the Pumas] going to change from the year before. The All Blacks have never lost in Argentina, and captain Sam Cane and Foster won't want that on their resumes when they return to New Zealand for the match against the Springboks in Auckland next weekend. Experienced locks Sam Whitelock and Brodie Retallick won't play; the former still has a sore Achilles tendon, and Retallick hasn't been risked.

Here's our summary of key economic events overnight that affect New Zealand, with news of a surprise US labour market expansion that appeared more modest than expected. The headline non-farm payrolls expanded +209,000 when analysts had expected +225,000 - and other observers noticed yesterday's ADP employment report that signaled +497,000. For all its economic recovery issues, China's foreign exchange reserves rose in June when no change was expected. That means the TWI-5 is now just over 70.3, little-changed from yesterday but up +50 bps in a week. Recall, this time last week this price was US$30,316, so little change from then too.

That's a bit different from 2020, when the outcome of the election was obvious and the Greens could take aim at Labour without risking their own chances at power. The other new aspect this year is the serious ground game the party is deploying in a number of electorates, aimed not just at the party vote but at winning seats as well. The Greens have never held two electorate seats at once and for most of their existence have been a list-only party. The party's analysis of the Auckland Central race in 2020 found that a two-tick campaign didn't harm the party vote, it actually bolstered it. The other noticeable difference this year on that front is Davidson's own decision not to run a two-tick campaign in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Photo / ODTTwo directors of a Dunedin bar took a group of teenage women to a locked room full of middle-aged men who made unwanted sexual advances. The incident was cited as a “very real concern” by the hearing panel that has now cancelled Eleven Bar’s liquor licence. It was one of several incidents described in a decision released today by Dunedin’s District Licensing Committee that led to the Octagon bar losing its licence, “effective immediately”. The decision stated the bar’s two directors, Nikesh Singh and Naveen Malhotra, took a group of teenage women to the upstairs bar during trading hours. A staff member, while Singh was present, asked them to hand over their phones because the bar’s staff were breaching Covid-19 rules and did not want to be filmed.
