WELLINGTON (IQNA) – Video of the Brenton Tarrant’s terrorist attack targeting a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, resurfaced on Twitter but the social media giant initially refused to remove it. Despite the video of Brenton Tarrant’s attack being illegal in New Zealand, a June 18 post with the video appeared in a Kiwi user’s “For You” feed. A spokeswoman for the Classification Office said it was illegal for anyone in New Zealand to view, possess or distribute the video - “including via social media platforms”. “The tweet has been removed and we have asked our Christchurch Call counterparts at Twitter to look into this matter.

But, if equality is imperfectly understood, then the notion of “equity” poses an even bigger challenge to the nation’s political comprehension. For many – perhaps most – people, the word ‘equity” is a synonym for the word “equality”. But the assumption that “equity” and “equality” mean roughly the same thing could not be more wrong. This is where the propensity of New Zealanders to treat equity and equality as synonyms leaves Team Equity facing an enormous problem. "But what is of greatest concern is the toll taken on vulnerable women including young women, and other sex sellers who’ve been caught up in the trade," says Ritchie. "Decriminalising prostitution has simply strengthened and emboldened misogynistic attitudes amongst New Zealand sex buyers", writes one survivor. Stop Demand argues that stigma is rightly fitting for a trade that, despite being state-sanctioned, irreparably damages lives, far too many. Stop Demand believes the million dollar tax-payer funded NZPC lobby has beguiled many with sanitising gloss and cognitive dissonance. The marking of twenty years, says Stop Demand, should be a time of lament, not celebration.
