An Australian union says New Zealand-based cabin crew on some ultra-long haul Qantas flights are getting shorter rest breaks than crew flying out of Australia. New Zealand-based crew are staffing the new Qantas Auckland-New York non-stop flight and some other long-haul routes. He told the Herald it flies in the face of fatigue concerns around the appropriate rest cabin crew should be receiving. Flight attendants on the New York flight are mainly Kiwis and have two nights on the ground in New York after their flights which are in the air for about 16 hours. Unions in this country accused Air New Zealand of doing the same when it opened a base for cabin crew in Shanghai.

Have a lovely weekend, let's hope the warm weather continues (with some heavy showers overnight, for the garden!) It's been great having Roland here this week, covering for Graham's holiday, so many thanks to Roland. Also I saw that Roland did an interview with Paul Hill, which I listened to last night - lots of interesting (mostly mid cap) share ideas. Red - means we see significant, or serious problems, so anyone looking at the share needs to be aware of the high risk. As it's quiet for small cap news today, I'll stray into larger territory too (our usual £1bn upper market…

Seeing as the issues we face currently have their roots in the underfunding of Key, I’m not sure where National now want to go back to. All their policy platform is slash and burn rhetoric with a promise to put kids in ankle bracelets at a younger age than ACT want to. National already have older voters, they need something to gain younger voters and playing to some rose coloured glasses nostalgia seems misplaced. Since when the hell was NZ ever on track past the neoliberal revolution anyway? If you can’t contribute but want to help, please always feel free to share our blogs on social media

Gang presence in Ōpōtiki after murder ‘unacceptable’ – LuxonLabour’s “inaction” around the gang presence in Ōpōtiki after a gang leader’s murder is “unacceptable”, according to National Party leader Christopher Luxon. TDB Recommends NewzEngine.comYou get that the creators of these gangs were the kids abused by the State in State care right? Part of me wishes that ACT and National were actually in power, because what are they seriously suggesting here? That’s why David Seymour’s ‘subhuman’ comment is so disgraceful and in fact far more terrifying than angry gang mourners because once someone is determined ‘subhuman’ by the State, the State legitimises any response. To have the leader of the 3rd largest political party in NZ start the ‘subhuman’ game is a dangerous escalation.

ACT leader David Seymour says his party wants a system that doesn’t drive production offshore. New Zealand should not be a first mover when it comes to a farm carbon tax, ACT leader David Seymour says. “If farmers in countries who are our biggest trading partners are not paying a price for their methane emissions, neither should New Zealand farmers,” said ACT party leader David Seymour when he announced the party’s primary industries policy at Fieldays in Hamilton on Thursday. Gerhard Uys/Stuff ACT leader David Seymour says he understands that agriculture is important to the country’s economy. “This would allow farmers to trade surplus water allocations amongst each other according to a sensible pricing system,” Seymour said.
