In those days we had no website to worry about – the NZ Herald, Herald on Sunday and nzherald.co.nz operations were separate, under individual editors. Any concerns I did have were further eased after the newsroom meeting. The Press Council has upheld the substance of the complaints. This is a brief outline; for the full Press Council decision, in two parts, please see www.presscouncil.org.nz. The Press Council is concerned with maintaining the press in accordance with the highest professional standards.

Meng Foon resigns after $2m in Govt payments not ‘adequately declared’Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon has resigned from his role this evening over undisclosed conflicts of interest. Ok.Ok.Ok.TDB Recommends NewzEngine.comLet’s do a compliment sandwich where I say something positive, then give my criticism and then end on another compliment so that the criticism can go down a little easier. So let’s start, and I mean this without being facetious, I have an enormous respect and aroha for Meng Foon. YOU HOSTED AN OFFICIAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION INQUIRY INTO CLAIMING HOMELESSNESS WAS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE WHILE BEING A RECIPIENT OF A 2.3MILLION CONTRACT FOR HOMELESSNESS AND DIDN’T SEE THAT AS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST!!!!! Now let us end the compliment sandwich with a final compliment, which is I think it’s neat he speaks te reo.

And its former editor, New Zealand Herald editor-at-large, Shayne Currie, this week recalled a 2005 case in which a reporter fabricated content on the Sunday paper. Pressures built, and the public’s expectations (fuelled by their own use of social media like Twitter) led media organisations to satisfy a need for instant gratification around the clock. Again, technology created both the need and the means to satisfy it. In the main, it serves them well, although RNZ, Stuff and NZME in the past few days will have applied some rueful hindsight to the perils of human error and human nature. That reflection should point news media to a reset: Relieve some of the pressure points to allow for comprehensive oversight.

The Naseby-based cup is for outdoor curling, yet bonspiels (curling tournaments) are increasingly threatened by climate change. They’re no longer even held in the sport’s birthplace of Scotland and the last Baxter Cup was held here in 2017. Naseby Curling Council secretary, Scott is also widely considered New Zealand’s longest practising Scottish piper. Maniototo farmer and Naseby Curling Council secretary Jock Scott said the game of curling has always been all about brotherhood. While the sport can be played indoors, curling requires natural ice that needs to be thickened by spraying water at regular intervals.

This paper has presented a hypothesis that the Great Depression can be understood as a critical period in the energy transition from coal to hydrocarbons. They were responsible for supplying between 70% and 76% of US energy in 1929; and 69% of energy used for capital formation. Further biophysical economic analysis of other nations during the Great Depression, and the revival of US railroads during WWII is warranted. The Champagne corks were popping on the mountain yesterday as Coronet Peak opened some of its runs to launch the Queenstown ski season, followed this morning by the part-opening of The Remarkables. "We had blankets, and a few whiskies to keep warm," Mr Furniss said. We need that situation to reverse," Mr Anderson said. First up Coronet Peak at the start of the Queenstown ski season are (from left) Natalie Urbani, Kurt Wilson, David Furniss and Mariachi Kosovich. "We’ve got a lot of bookings for learners so they’re all going to be out there," Mr Anderson said.

The original Invercargill Botanical Gardens were what is now known as the Otepuni Gardens. The tradition of tree planting was borrowed from America where it was well-established. Southland’s first Arbor Day may have been the one held about June 14, 1886. Between 1892 and 1914 schools and Government departments observed Arbor Day, at various dates in winter and spring. Fortunately, the rope tied to a tree ashore held and the inflatable dinghies cushioned the yacht from impact with the rocks.
