The co-governance of the 1%? It’s why your electricity and food is so expensive and their shareholder profits are so good. It’s why there’s no money to fix your roads full of potholes, your leaky waterpipes and the sewerage washing up on your beach. It’s why you get paid so much less that you would in Australia and why you are so much easier to fire.

Although a private road provided access for six weeks, this wasn’t suitable for heavy vehicles. The council has been working on a permanent solution, with four proposed options presented to councillors by senior transportation engineer Calum McLean. Option 1 would see a new 30 meter bridge placed just east of the former and temporary bridge, at an estimated cost of $2.75 million. Option 2 was a new bridge placed 40 meters upstream of the former bridge, costing $3.5 mln. The third option was a 60 meter long bridge, some 70 meters upstream of the old bridge, costing $6.75 mln.

Hipkins cancelled work on a wealth tax in July, which led to the resignation of his Revenue Minister, David Parker. The reports say the Taieri MP and chair of the Finance and Expenditure Committee Ingrid Leary has spoken in favour of a wealth tax or a capital gains tax. "The Labour tax policy is clear - we are not proposing a wealth tax or capital gains tax if re-elected. He says Leary's approval of a capital gains tax or wealth tax has won support from elsewhere, most recently, the back bencher Ibrahim Omer. "They want a wealth tax, they have got the Green Party next to them, who are absolutely gagging for a wealth tax and/or capital gains tax, so much so that they have made it a bottom line of their coalition talks.

The Nelson Tenths have been with Donna McLeod since she was a child, carrying her nanny’s kete along to hui where the ongoing loss of land was being discussed. Now, the Motueka writer, who is creating a theatre piece on the intergenerational history surrounding the Tenths, says she refuses to pass on the trauma that she and her ancestors have carried. McLeod (Te Ātiawa) discovered several years ago, that her grandmother who couldn’t read or write, had somehow signed her name to land that had disappeared. McLeod said what she wants to do is awaken a curiosity in New Zealanders about their own place to stand. It will be performed at Te Noninga Kumu Motueka Public Library on October 25, and the Theatre Royal on October 26.

Consumer NZ chief executive Jon Duffy says the Commission is now slick at market studies. From the market studies we’ve had some interesting developments. Market studies are costly for businesses, there are lawyers and consultants and accountants needed to help state your case, or defend your turf. Hipkins said had also offered to "at any point in the next week before election day to have the debate". "I've been keeping in touch with people who are out on the campaign trail while I've been isolating.

More than 60% of all new passenger cars sold in September were "new energy" type - either full electric, plug-in hybrids, or standard hybrids. 2029 cars were sold as full EVs, 41% of the total NEVs sold in the month. Together, these raised the rolling twelve month share to almost half (46.7%) of new car sales in the month. But so far only less than 130,000 NEVs have been included in that overall car fleet, just 4.3%. New car sales make up about 110,000 per year (and rising), used car imports another 100,000 per year (and falling).
