All Blacks suffer setback as first-choice loose-head prop De Groot suspended for two gamesAll Blacks suffer setback as first-choice loose-head prop De Groot suspended for two games[Image: Stuff.co.nz]The All Blacks have suffered a blow in their Rugby World Cup 2023 campaign after first-choice loose-head prop Ethan De Groot was handed a two-match suspension following his red card offence in their 71-3 thrashing of Namibia over the weekend. At the hearing, De Groot admitted he had committed an act of foul play, but maintained the red-card threshold had not been met and challenged the Foul Play Review Official’s decision that the tackle was “always illegal”. All Blacks coach Ian Foster later claimed the initial contact in the collision had been shoulder on shoulder, and pointed to Booysen’s injury as evidence of that. The All Blacks will now rely on senior prop Ofa Tuungafasi and rookie Crusaders front-rower Tamaiti Williams to cover the loosehead for the final two Pool A clashes against Italy and Uruguay. The All Blacks will play Italy next Saturday at 7am in their third RWC pool game.

Jones died two years ago, shortly before the launch of the first generative AI applications. Last month, the New York Times reported Google was testing an AI tool called Genesis, which uses AI technology to write news articles. But is keeping those generative AI apps at arm's length the right option? Last month, Stuff owner Sinead Boucher told an Asia Pacific summit of the International News Media Association (INMA) generative AI could become "degenerative" for the media and society. Would Stuff be taking this stance on generative AI if Boucher hadn’t just put up its first paywalls after 25 years?

The Labour Party is promising up to $4000 per household to encourage the use of solar energy. Half of that would be to help pay for solar panels on rooftops and half would be available to pay for battery storage. “We need to increase renewable electricity generation by 68% by 2050," says Labour leader Chris Hipkins. It says there are just over 53,000 homes in New Zealand with solar panels on their roofs and the number is growing. But SEANZ says people are gradually realising that the return on the upfront cost of installing solar panels is worth it in the long run.
