TRIPOLI: At least 16 people were killed and 52 wounded in fighting between armed groups in Tripoli, the health ministry said on Saturday, following the latest politically driven violence to hit the Libyan capital. The fighting began on Thursday night and extended into Friday afternoon. The clashes were between two armed groups with major clout in the west of the war-torn country: the Al-Radaa force and the Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade. Several sources said one group´s detention of a fighter belonging to the other had sparked the fighting, which extended to several districts of the capital. "All the wounded received medical care in hospitals" in Tripoli, the health ministry said in a statement.

(VOA)Fighting between rival militias in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, which tailed off late Friday, have left a confusing political situation as two rival governments continue to lock horns, and political leaders flex their muscles to control more territory and determine who is more powerful. Libyan media claimed that a militia loyal to outgoing Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh gained ground in the fighting over a rival militia, which supports the ruling presidential council in Tripoli. The three-man presidential council ordered a Libyan army unit, the 444 Brigade, to deploy in parts of Tripoli after the fighting subsided. The new head of the Libyan National Oil Company indicated at a press conference Friday the country was now producing 650,000 barrels of oil per day. U.N. Special envoy Stephanie Williams was shown meeting with Presidential Council leader Khaled al Meshri.

Death toll of Tripoli clashes has reached 16 persons
The Libyan Ministry of Health said that the number of deaths following Tripoli clashes that took place on Thursday and Friday reached 16 people and injuries reached 52. The Ministry of Health said that all of the injured people are receiving medical treatment in public sector hospitals in Tripoli. Tripoli saw heavy clashes between Special Deterrence Force (SDF) and Presidential Security Guard because the latter attacked an SDF senior leader named Essam Harous. The Presidential Council, as the Chief Commander of the Army, assigned the Chief of General Staff of Libyan Army, Mohammed Al-Haddad, and the temporary Minister of Interior Badr Al-Toumi to supervise and follow up the ceasefire in Tripoli. Uneasy calm has prevailed in clashes' areas amid mobilizations from different sides, those which clashed Thursday and others.

Dbeibeh visits people wounded in Tripoli clashes, orders compensations
Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, premier of the Tripoli-based government, paid a visit on Saturday to several individuals who were wounded during the violent clashes that erupted the capital since last Thursday, according to a statement by the government. Dbeibeh’s government did not disclose the name of the hospital which the premier visited nor did it disclose whether those individuals are civilians or fighters. However, it announced that Dbeibeh ordered to have the treatment expenses of all wounded be covered by the government even if some patients’ conditions required hospitalization abroad. The 63-year-old leader also ordered compensations for civilians who endured damages as result of the clashes. The Ministry of Health reported earlier today that 16 people were killed and 52 wounded in the recent wave of violence that struck the capital.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Friday expressed concern about clashes that took place between two armed groups in the capital Tripoli. “UNSMIL has received reports of civilian casualties as a result of clashes between two armed groups in Tripoli on Thursday night,” UNSMIL said in a statement. NOC: Libya oil production raises to 860,000 bpd

Interior Minister Mazen sacked after Tripoli militia clashes – tense ceasefire achieved
