In a quick response, Foreign Minister Kemayah said the 14-year war is a lesson for every Liberian, adding that there is no way the country can revert to its ugly past. We no longer wish to experience such a crisis,” Liberia’s Foreign Minister said. Minister Kemayah added, “I am not saying this because I am in government. “The electorate is giving him the votes, so why would he disrupt the process of receiving those votes,” Minister Kemayah said.

Monrovia – Several members of the Liberia Chess Federation (LCF) showed their support for the re-election of President George Weah on Thursday, September 7, 2023, by hosting the Check 18 chess tournament. Anthony Waylea, Jr. and Georgina Sackie emerged as the winners in the open and female sections, respectively. Following the conclusion of the tournament, more than five athletes in each category were awarded cash prizes for their outstanding performance in the recently concluded chess tournament, organized in honor of President Weah’s re-election. Today the EU EOM has deployed 20 Long-Term Observers all over Liberia. “The European Union Election Observation Mission will monitor the process impartially and independently. Since then, the EU EOM had several meetings with Liberian authorities, political parties, journalists and civil society organisations. The EU Election Observers come from the 27 different EU Member States, as well as Canada and Norway, bringing the number of EU Observers on Election Day to around 100. All EU EOM observers are bound by a code of conduct, which requires strict neutrality and noninterference.

A manhunt has been launched for a British soldier awaiting trial on “terrorism”-related charges who escaped from a prison in southwest London, according to the United Kingdom’s Counter Terrorism Policing force. Daniel Abed Khalife, who is accused of planting fake bombs at a military base and of violating Britain’s Official Secrets Act, went missing from Wandsworth prison on Wednesday morning, police said. BBC News/Gabon’s military leaders say they have freed deposed President Ali Bongo from house arrest, where he has been since they seized power last week. The army seized power shortly after he had been declared the winner of that election, disputed by the opposition. The announcement to free Mr Bongo follows pressure from regional bloc Eccas and neighbouring countries. In a communique read on state TV on Wednesday evening, military spokesperson Col Ulrich Manfoumbi said the decision to free Mr Bongo was due to “his state of health”. Mr Bongo had been in power in the oil-rich country since 2009, when he succeeded his father who had ruled the country for 41 years.

Saah Joseph, known for his charismatic personality and strong political connections, soon started personalizing government properties for his own political gains. He devised a cunning plan to utilize county development funds, which were intended for the betterment of the community, to purchase earthmoving equipment. Admittedly, Saah Joseph did not shy away from acknowledging that the equipment had indeed been obtained using public funds. Joseph has not been able to explain why he was using public assets as if they were his personal properties. Whether Saah Joseph’s actions were ultimately seen as a shrewd political strategy or a breach of public trust remained to be seen.

The Federation of Liberia Youth (FLY) is to officially launch and present an initiative called “Vote your peace” initiative in Liberia. The initiative aims to empower youth to engage meaningfully in the electoral process and contribute to a peaceful and democratic future for Liberia. And its activities will highlight a wide range of civil engagements awareness, stakeholder’s debates, and youth commitment to peace pledge, among others.
