Gabon's President Calls for Help After Ouster in Country’s First Coup
Gabon’s deposed President Ali Bongo Ondimba has solicited help, hours after he was put under house arrest by members of his presidential guard in an ongoing coup attempt on Wednesday. Bongo, who confirmed his arrest in a video circulating on social media and verified by Al Jazeera, called on calls on citizens to “make noise” after the coup attempt. The coup leaders said his family and his doctors were with him in his home. They also said the election results were cancelled, all borders closed until further notice and state institutions dissolved. The state institutions they declared dissolved included the government, the senate, the national assembly, the constitutional court and the election body.

Gabon army officers in coup attempt days after elections
The officers said they were closing Gabon’s borders until further notice and dissolving state institutions. The announcement on the Gabon 24 channel came shortly after the Gabonese Elections Centre declared that Mr Ondimba, who has been in power for 14 years, had won a third term in elections held on Saturday. “We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime,” said one of the officers. “To this end, the general elections of 26 August 2023 and the truncated results are cancelled,” he said. Gabon’s government announced a nationwide curfew and cut off internet access on Saturday evening as voting in major national elections for new local leaders, national legislators and the next president was wrapping up.

Bomi County Senator Morris Saytumah has responded to a recent situation in Bomi County where he was booed by people in the crowd at a political rally called by President George Weah, as if it were déjà vu. In his words, he experienced a similar situation when he ran for the position of senator. The right to that privacy was clearly violated yesterday by the RIA and the government operating through the NSA and its surrogates.”In reference to the law governing CCTV footage, he further said. Said privacy could be leaked to surrogates of the CDC at any point in time for political or private sinister motives.

Engineer missing for a year after disappearance on cargo ship
A 24-year-old Turkish man has been missing for almost a year after mysteriously disappearing during an expedition aboard a Liberian-flagged cargo ship. The vessel was en route from Egypt’s Suez port to Portugal’s Porto when Acar was last seen on Sept. 7, 2022. White Gunman Kills 3 Black People in Florida Mass Shooting
JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA — A white gunman fatally shot three people inside a Jacksonville, Florida, Dollar General store Saturday in a predominately Black neighborhood in an attack that the local sheriff called “racially motivated.” The shooter then killed himself. “He hated Black people,” Sheriff T.K. The shooting happened just before 2 p.m. at a Dollar General near Edward Waters University, a small historically Black university. Gunman kills three in racially motivated shooting in Jacksonville, Florida
Authorities believe the shooter acted alone, and that before the shooting he had authored “several manifestos” for media, his parents and law enforcement detailing his hatred for Black people. A white man armed with a high-powered rifle and a handgun killed three Black people at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, before shooting himself, in what local law enforcement described as a racially motivated crime. “This shooting was racially motivated, and he hated Black people,” Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. The suspect, whom Waters described as a white male wearing a tactical vest, was not identified. Waters described his weapons as a Glock and an “AR-15 style” rifle, with swastikas on it, referring to a lightweight semi-automatic long gun often used in mass shootings.

Russia Downs Ukrainian Drones in Moscow Region
VOA News|Russia said Tuesday its air defenses shot down Ukrainian drones over the Moscow region and the Bryansk area along the border between the two countries. The Russian Defense Ministry said the attack in the Moscow area involved two drones and that there was no reported damage. The Russian Defense Ministry said two Ukrainian drones brought down by jamming systems over Bryansk crashed without causing any casualties. Russia also said Sukhoi jets destroyed a Ukrainian reconnaissance boat operating in the area of Russian gas production facilities in the Black Sea. A defense ministry statement did not give further details on the incident, including where exactly it took place.
