Gbarpolu —The Binda Foundation has provided hundreds of school supplies valued at over LD$350,000 or US$2,500 to hundreds of students and schools in Garpolu county. Binda Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the United States committed to improving the lives and conditions of citizens in Liberia. “Hundreds of parents have complained that the economic conditions in the country cannot permit them to afford school supplies for their children,” Vongbor said. Friday’s donation saw both the Gbarma elementary school and the Beotoe public School elementary school benefiting. Born and raised in Liberia with parents originating from Gbarma District, he’s also the grand child of the late Chief Ziamah Samgbeh, a historic paramount Chief of Gbarpolu.

MONROVIA — The Center for Science Education Inc, a local non-profit Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education organization over the weekend in partnership with Helping Hands Network concluded a week-long training workshop for Physics teachers in optics and photonics experiments. The training workshop was held in Kakata Margibi County and brought together fifteen teachers from public high schools across County. In his final statement, he appealed to Center for Science Education and 2HN to in the near future increase the length of days for such a workshop. Center for Science Education has been involved in strengthening teacher’s capacity in the sciences and has successfully set-up science laboratory at the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU), Soltiamon High School, Monrovia Colleague & Industrial Training School, Reunion Christian Academy (RECA) etc. The Organization also runs a Mobile Science Laboratory that visit schools enable students conduct practical experiments as required in the WASSEC curriculum.

Janjay Baikpeh has expressed satisfaction over the renovation and upgrades taking place at the ArcelorMittal Liberia hospital in Buchanan. ArcelorMittal Liberia has embarked on a major renovation of its two Hospitals to increase the capacity and improve the quality of services it provides. Superintendent Baikpeh commended ArcelorMittal Liberia for the ongoing efforts and encouraged the management to continue doing more to impact the lives of Liberians, especially those residing in the operational areas of the company. Baikpeh for the visit to the hospital, and assured that with the ongoing improvements, there would be an increased capacity for additional services. VP Taylor, Others Ordered to Appear Before Moral and Ethics Committee Of The Supreme CourtMONROVIA – About 27 Attorneys-At-Law including Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor have been ordered to appear before Moral and Ethics Committee for questioning beginning this Thursday at the Temple of Justice. The Moral and Ethics Committee is one of two committees set up by the Supreme Court of Liberia to administer its legal exam for 109-Attorneys-At-Law. Though, VP Taylor was amongst nine Attorneys-At-Law that were granted dispensation for admission to Supreme Court bar, as Counselor-At-Law, but the Moral and Ethics Committee is demanding her appearance along with twenty-six other candidates. Over 100 AttorneysAt-Laws begun writing the Supreme Cpurt Bar Legal Exam this week at the Temple of Justice. The candidates are seeking for admission to the Supreme Court Bar, after meeting the Court’s five years legal requirement consistent with Chapter 17, Section 17.6 of the Judiciary Law of Liberia.

Liberia: 30 Feared Dead after Armed Robbery, Stampede at Crusade in New Kru TownMONROVIA – At least 30 persons are believed to be dead in New Kru Town during a stampede that occurred during a crusade at the D. Tweh Field. The crusade was organized by the More Grace International Ministries headed by Abraham Kromah. The stampede reportedly occurred when some criminals and hooligans in the area attacked the worshipers at the jam-packed crusade with machetes and other deadly weapons, resulting into tension and a big rush to escape. The late Kromah died on January 18, 2022, at his residence in Sophie Community, Congo Town. According to many, the late Kromah was a moderate Muslim. Representative Mariamu B. Fofana of Lofa County and the late Kromah hailed from the same Tusu Town in Quardu Gboni District, Lofa County. “Prior to him (the late Kromah) encouraging us, our people used to hide their faces, change their names when they were traveling around this country,” she said. According to him, the late Kromah spirit will not rest until an ALCOP government success in the upcoming General and Presidential Elections.

MONROVIA – Bong County have proudly and convincingly won the athletics edition of the 2021/2022 National County Sports Meet with the accumulation of 38 points from nine (9) track and field events. The Kpatewee athletes grabbed three gold medals from two middle distance’s races, 800m and 1,500 and from a medley relay. Also, Bong County earned seven (7) silver medals in five events, namely, 100m female, 200m female, 400m both male and female, medley relay, 4×400 mixed relay and shot put. MONROVIA – Four security personnel assigned at the Monrovia City Court have filed a US$1.5 million lawsuit against the Alternative National Congress (ANC) and Liberty Party (LP) for damages, following allegations of injuries allegedly meted on them by partisans of the two parties. Both parties were summoned by the Civil Law Court Tuesday for the action of damages for wrong. The plaintiffs maintained that Co-defendant Bility offered and opted to mitigate the situation and underwrite the cost associated with damages sustained to improve medical. They also maintained that Michael severely beat on plaintiff Victory Davis with a baton on her head, which resulted in her being unconscious. Meanwhile, plaintiffs pray the court to hold the defendant liable to pay the amount of US$ 1.5 million as damages.

Daniel Dennis, president of Students Against Corruption has been accused of sexual harassment by former female colleaguesMonrovia – At least one of Daniel K. Dennis’ female colleagues, 21-year-old Isatu Dweh, has alleged that she was raped by Dennis, who carries himself as a rights activist against corruption and abuse. According to her, she and Dennis, who is the president of Student Against Corruption (SAC), have two children and he has abandoned them with her. The study will interview between 6,000 and 7,500 households countrywide to establish how COVID-19 has affected their livelihoods and how they have been coping. “This in-depth survey will enable the government to better understand the impacts of COVID-19 on the largely undocumented informal sector, and to use the data generated to design and implement effective, targeted measures to alleviate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on small informal businesses,” said Hon. This data can demonstrate to the government how vital informal businesses are to the country’s growth and prosperity so that appropriate policies are put in place to support Liberia’s informal economy. This could include providing targeted services to informal businesses to make them robust economic entities,” said Stephen Rodriques, UNDP’s Resident Representative in Liberia. About 60 enumerators have been trained since mid-December, and each will visit and interview people in 120 households in 10 counties where most of the country’s informal businesses are concentrated – Bong, Gbarpolu, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Margibi, Montserrado, Nimba, Rivergee and Sinoe.
