In praise of our better public transport services
Sir, – With all the justifiable criticism of public transport and the M50, it is perhaps worth reminding ourselves of the public transport successes. I live in Straffan, Co Kildare, and at one point in my career I worked in an office in Blackrock, Dublin. Before taking up the position, I drove from Straffan to Blackrock and then did the same journey by public transport. I then took the short walk to Tara Street Dart station and jumped on one of the very regular Dart services to Blackrock. If this excellent standard of public transport can be achieved on some routes, it can surely be achieved on more, if not all, routes.

Left alone in the left lane
Sir, – I’m horrified by Ben Murphy’s call for Irish drivers to be educated that the left lane is the default one (Letters, March 23rd). At present it’s my personal bus lane. Mostly completely free, as for some bizarre reason Irish drivers will only drive in the middle and outside lane. North Dublin apartment portfolio hits the market with €120m price tag
Developer Rick Larkin’s Twinlite and its joint-venture partner, Tristan Capital Partners, have engaged Hooke & MacDonald and Knight Frank as joint agents for the sale of 282 apartments at Clongriffin in north Dublin. Two Three North, as it is known, is being offered to the market at a guide price of €120 million. Developed alongside the 376 apartments at One Three North, the 282 units in the Two Three North portfolio comprise a mix of 236 private rented sector (PRS) apartments and 46 apartments let to Dublin City Council on a 25-year lease (with more than 21 years remaining). The PRS element of the portfolio is 13 per cent under-rented, offering significant reversionary potential once these units turn over. The sale of Two Three North comes just over four years after Twinlite and Tristan Capital’s proposed disposal of the 376 apartments at One Three North.

O’Brien pondering Gladness start for Albert Einstein
He was due to go for a racecourse gallop on Sunday at the Curragh but given it is so long since he ran, O’Brien is now contemplating giving him a run. “What we were thinking is that we are taking the horses on Sunday to the Curragh to work. A bad week for incumbentsPrime minister Mette Frederiksen’s Social Democrats had its worst result since 1903 in Denmark’s general election yesterday, although it remained the biggest party. And although her left-leaning “red bloc” of parties won 84 seats to the right-leaning blue bloc’s 77, Frederiksen is not certain to remain prime minister after what is likely to be weeks of coalition negotiations. Poulsen said last night he does not want to go back into government with the Social Democrats, calling for a new, centre-right coalition. Frederiksen became a role model for some struggling centre-left leaders across Europe when she adopted harsh anti-immigration policies. The outcome of Tuesday’s referendum on judicial reform in Italy was, by contrast, a straightforward and resounding defeat for prime minister Giorgia Meloni.

Why must I be frightened to speak out against Israel?
Mr Netanyahu has turned the Gaza Strip into a wasteland, killing over 70,000 people there. Additionally he is bombing Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Yemen... killing innocent people under the guise of chasing down and killing Hamas or Hezbollah supporters. No, I’d like to think we wouldn’t, so why are we condoning these same actions, in other parts of the world? My small silent protest is when I go shopping I avoid purchasing potatoes, avocados, dates, herbs or fruits from Israel. Mohammed, aged five, Othman, aged seven, who was blind and had special needs, their mother and their father were killed.
