The Medical Council is set to host a major international conference on medical regulation, which is expected to be “self-financing”. The 16th International Conference on Medical Regulation will take place in Dublin in September 2025. A Medical Council spokesperson told the Medical Independent: “The conference is expected to be self-financing, funded by registration fees and sponsorship. The Medical Council is the only full member in Ireland, while CORU is a partner member. In Scotland, the Scottish Environment Flood Agency had 47 flood warnings in place with eight issued by Natural Resources Wales. The Met Office said winds will ease slightly as Storm Ashley moves north-east on Monday, with a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells expected in its wake. The weather is likely to turn “unsettled” later in the week, bringing possible heavy rain and strong winds once more.

Westmeath artist and doll maker to launch TUS exhibitionA Westmeath-based artist and doll maker will launch a unique exhibition of work in the TUS Library in Athlone tomorrow morning (Tuesday, October 22) which was created in conjunction with the members of the Offaly Traveller Movement. 'Threading Needles, Telling Stories' is a storytelling through doll-making project which was led by artist and doll maker Teresa Doyle, with funding from Creative Ireland. The purpose of the project was to explore Traveller heritage and culture in a new way, with each doll serving as a vessel for participants to demonstrate and tell the stories of their Traveller experiences. Through this project, each participant had the opportunity to explore and share their heritage and culture in a new way, through the creation of a three-dimensional fabric doll-like figure. Skills including planning, designing, pattern-making, pattern-cutting, pressing, stitching, knitting and garment assembly were undertaken and practised throughout the project.

Man charged over assault outside Co Antrim village pubBy David Young, PAA 28-year-old man has been charged after a teenager was left in a critical condition following an assault outside a bar in the Co Antrim village of Waterfoot. Police received a report of the 19-year-old victim being unconscious in the Main Street of the village just after 1.25am on Saturday. Officers believe an altercation took place outside the pub following an argument inside the licensed premises. The man remained in a critical condition in hospital on Sunday evening. A 28-year-old man arrested later on Saturday in connection with the assault has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

The plot was foiled after the NCA uncovered incriminating messages on encrypted EncroChat which had been cracked by French counterparts. Ahead of their Old Bailey trial, Kavanagh, Byrne and Kent admitted the conspiracy last month. He then used his EncroChat device to relay instructions to others tasked with him to obtain the guns and ammunition, the court was told.
