Delhi High Court discharges Income Tax official charged by CBI for bribery
The Delhi High Court on Monday discharged a senior income tax official, of graft charges levelled against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly demanding bribes from the prime accused in the multi crore “Stock Guru” case. Khaire has been accused of inducing investors to invest their money in M/s Stock Guru by making false assurances. Finding force in the contentions raised by Advocate, the Delhi High Court ruled that the material collected by CBI “is not sufficient to frame the charge” against the I-T Officer. The high court also held that “perusal of transcripts of audio & video recordings does not reflect any demand of gratification” from the accused by the I-T Officer. The income tax officer had moved the Delhi High court against an order of the lower court of September 12, 2019, vide which the trial court had framed charges against him.

Sun Pharma and Taro announce merger agreement
Sun Pharma’s efforts to mop up the remaining shares in Israel’s Taro Pharma appears to have entered the final leg, with the two companies announcing a merger agreement. “Pursuant to the Merger Agreement, Taro will merge with a company that is controlled by Sun Pharma upon completion of the merger, Taro will become a privately-held company and an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun Pharma,” Taro said in a filing with the US SEC. “The Merger Agreement provides each of Taro and Sun Pharma with certain termination rights under certain circumstances, in each case without requiring payment of a termination fee,” it added. Herzog, Fox & Neeman is acting as the Israeli legal counsel to Sun Pharma, while Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP is acting as its US legal counsel. Meitar is acting as Israeli legal counsel to Taro and Shearman & Sterling LLP is acting as US legal counsel to Taro.
