I vividly recall watching it during my teen years, and the scars it left were more than just on the screen. While some movies censor cuss words, those such as Saw and Wrong Turn slap violence right into our faces. Filmmakers seem to have realised that showcasing gruesome violence is a magnet for audiences, turning violence into the edge-of-the-seat thrill sought in movies. It has become a measure of success, where the scale tips in favour of movies with more violence. It’s time to reconsider the role of violence in storytelling and its impact on our collective psyche.

The shifting shape of Hindu mythologicals
In their constant search for engaging stories, films have often travelled back to the remote past for inspiration. Homi Wadia’s Wadia Movietone and Basant Pictures were at the forefront of making mythologicals in the North. Meanwhile, in the South, N T Rama Rao acquired divine status by playing Krishna in several films in the 1950s and Venkateswara in Sri Venkateswara Mahatyam (1960). Yet he was radical enough to take the risk of becoming Ravana in Bhookailas (1958), a role he reprised in his directorial debut, Seeta Rama Kalyanam (1961). The versatile Sivaji Ganesan worked in several genres, including the mythological, his most popular outing being Shiva in Thiruvilayadal (1965).

India to fence Myanmar border, free movement agreement to be discontinued: Amit Shah - Telegraph India
Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday said India would fence its border with Myanmar and discontinue the free movement agreement, adding that the border would be "protected like the Bangladesh frontier". "The India-Myanmar border will be protected like the Bangladesh frontier. The Centre will stop the free movement with Myanmar," Shah said while addressing the passing-out parade of the first batch of five newly constituted Assam Police commando battalions in Tezpur, Assam. He said it would be “unacceptable” as people from both sides of the India-Myanmar border wish to come under one administration. “The fencing along the entire Myanmar border is likely to take four to five years.

जागरण संवाददाता, नई दिल्ली। Lok Sabha Election 2024 से पहले एक बार फिर One Nation One Election की बहस तेज हो गई है।एक ओर कांग्रेस ने इसको लेकर जहां इसका स्पष्ट विरोध किया है, वहीं आम आदमी पार्टी ने भी इस पर रुख अख्तियार कर लिया है। पार्टी ने औपचारिक पत्र जारी करते हुए एक देश एक चुनाव नीति का साफ तौर से विरोध किया है।सुनने में भले ही अच्छा हो पर लागू करना असली परीक्षावन नेशन वन इलेक्शन कमेटी ने लोगों से इस पर सुझाव मांगे हैं। इसी पर आम आदमी पार्टी ने अपना सुझाव दिया है। पार्टी ने कहा है कि भले ही यह सुनने में अच्छा लग रहा हो लेकिन इसका रियल टेस्ट इसके लागू करने में है।पार्टी का ये भी कहना है कि यह देखना होगा कि क्या यह नीति हमारे लोकतंत्र को मजबूत करती है। क्या यह हमारे संविधान में दिए फ्री एंड फेयर इलेक्शन के सिद्धांत पर खरी उतरती है।पार्टी का कहना है कि हमारे इन प्रश्नों के उत्तर में इस ड्राफ्ट में केवल एक पत्र मिला है, उसमें भी हमारी समस्याओं का पूरी तरह से समाधान नहीं है।एक देश एक चुनाव नीति के ड्राफ्ट से उठने वाले सांविधानिक मुद्देएक बार में सभी चुनाव होने से संविधान को ठेस पहुंचेगी। यह हमारे संविधान की मूल भावना के साथ भी खिलवाड़ करता है।पार्टी का कहना है कि जनप्रतिनिधियों द्वारा सरकार चलाना हमारे संविधान और लोकतंत्र की मूल भावना है जो वन नेशन वन इलेक्शन से आहत होगी। आम आदमी पार्टी का कहना है कि इससे हमारे संसदीय ढांचे, फ्री एंड फेयर इलेक्शन, फेडरल स्ट्रक्चर पर पड़ेगा।हंग एसेंबली जैसे मुद्दों को भी उठायाआप का ये भी कहना है कि वन नेशन वन इलेक्शन नीति में यह ताकत नहीं है कि वह हंग एसेंबली के मुद्दे को सुलझा सके। उस परिस्थिति में जब किसी को स्पष्ट मत नहीं मिलेगा तब यह नीति क्या करेगी इसका कोई उल्लेख नहीं है। यह नीति एंटी डिफेक्शन लॉ पर भी कुछ नहीं कहती।

The Economist calculated in 2022 that eight percent of the world lives in a full democracy and another 37.3 percent in flawed ones. Interestingly, both the U.S. and India figure under ‘flawed’ democracies, while the U.K. is seen as a full democracy.

धर्मपाल आर्य, हापुड़। पिलखुवा कोतवाली क्षेत्र के अंतर्गत मोहल्ला प्रहलाद नगर में कल योगी बेटे और बहू ने वृद्ध मां के साथ तीन दिन तक मारपीट की। शनिवार की सुबह अपनों की पिटाई से आहत वृद्धा की मौत हो गई। सूचना मिलने पर गांव से आए बड़े बेटे ने कोतवाली में अपने भाई व उसकी पत्नी के खिलाफ तहरीर देकर कार्रवाई की मांग की है। वहीं, पुलिस ने शव पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए भेजा है और मामले की जांच शुरू कर दी है।मोहल्ला प्रहलाद नगर में वृद्धा के छोटे बेटे अनिल और उसकी पत्नी शारदा ने मिलकर 70 वर्षीय सरोजा के साथ तीन दिन तक मारपीट की। मां ने अपने बेटे की प्रताड़ना से आहत होकर शनिवार की सुबह दम तोड़ दिया। सूचना मिलने पर मेरठ के थाना दौराला के गांव जोथा से वृद्ध का बड़ा पुत्र मनोज आया।पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए भेजा शवइसके बाद पड़ोस के लोगों से उसे घटना की जानकारी मिली, जिसकी सूचना उसने तुरंत ही पुलिस को दी। मौके पर पहुंची पुलिस ने मां के शव को कब्जे में ले लिया और पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए भेज दिया है।कोतवाली प्रभारी अखिलेश त्रिपाठी का कहना है कि बड़े बेटे मनोज ने अपने छोटे भाई पर मां को प्रताड़ना देने का आरोप लगाया है, शव को कब्जे में लेकर पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए भेजा गया है।जमीन के रुपये के लिए मां को माराबड़े बेटे मनोज ने बताया कि मां सरोजा को उसका छोटा भाई अनिल गांव से लेकर आया था। लगभग छह माह पूर्व ही गांव की जमीन बेची थी। जिसके रुपये मां के पास थे। सूचना मिलने पर जब वह और अन्य रिश्तेदार यहां आएं थे, तो देखकर ही पता चल रहा था कि मां के साथ बुरी तरह से मारपीट की गई है।यही नही दो दिन पूर्व उसकी बहन भी मां से मिलने घर पर आई थी, तो मां की हाालत देखकर उसने अनिल से मां को अस्पताल ले जाने की बात कही, लेकिन अनिल ने समय न होने की बात कहकर मना कर दिया, जिसकी जानकारी बहन ने मनोज क्रो दी थी।
