The private jet parking lots at airports near the Indian city of Ayodhya are full and the shops have run out of gold-plated idols, as wealthy devotees prepare for the invite-only opening ceremony of one of Hinduism's holiest temples. Officials estimate 100 private jets will descend on Jan. 22 on Ayodhya airport, filling it to capacity. Mehra did not disclose the price of the charters, but private jet booking website JetSetGo lists the price of a Mumbai-Gorakhpur return flight on a Falcon 2000 jet with nine passengers on board at about $74,000. "People are betting on economic prosperity but there's also emotional attachment to be part of the Ayodhya story."

HYDERABAD: Masab Tank police arrested a bike taxi driver on Wednesday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 30,000 from his customer. According to the cops, the complainant had engaged the accused driver to deliver a laptop from Khairatabad to his office in Gachibowli. However, while he was on the way, Srikanth called the customer and demanded Rs 30,000 to return the laptop safely to his office. The accused threatened the customer, demanding payment of Rs 30,000, warning that if not complied with, all contents on the laptop would be deleted. Masab Tank police tracked down the accused, arrested him and recovered the laptop from his possession.

On January 18, another shocking incident was reported from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur where a 29-year-old PhD research scholar was found dead in her dorm room. Notably, this is the third suspected suicide case emerging from the institute in the previous five weeks. APPSC, Ambedkar Periyar Phule study circle, a student collective of IIT Bombay took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to shed light on this issue. In his post, the collective wrote “Students protesting at IIT Kanpur following the 3 recent suicides in one month, raising issues of incompetence of redressal mechanisms, representation, and demanding accountability from the administration”. The institute mourned the “untimely and unfortunate demise” of the student and stated that institute had lost a bright and promising young student.

A SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule carrying the Axiom quartet lifted off about an hour before sunset from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, beginning a planned 36-hour flight to the orbiting laboratory. The autonomously operated Crew Dragon was expected to reach the International Space Station (ISS) early on Saturday morning and dock with the orbiting outpost some 250 miles (400 km) above Earth. Axiom billed the flight as "the first all-European commercial astronaut mission" to the space station. NASA, besides furnishing the launch site at Cape Canaveral, assumes responsibility for the astronauts once they rendezvous with the space station.
