An inquiry by Italy’s Data Protection Authority (DPA) found data privacy violations pertaining to collecting personal data and age protections. Indian-American student Shreyas Reddy dies in Ohio; fourth such death within a month in US
NEW YORK: Police in the US are investigating the death of an Indian-American student in the state of Ohio, the fourth such case within a month in the country. The Consulate General of India in New York said on Thursday that no foul play is suspected at this stage in the death of Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student of the Lindner School of Business, Cincinnati. "Deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of Mr. Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, a student of Indian origin in Ohio," the Consulate said in a post on X. At this stage, foul play is not suspected," the Consulate said, without divulging any further details of the incident. The Consulate continues to remain in touch with the family and is extending all possible assistance to them, it said.

Three builders booked for Rs 50 crore graft in Chennai
CHENNAI: A day after booking three builders for allegedly paying bribes to the tune of Rs 50 crore to government officials and elected representatives with regard to a construction project at Binny Mills in Perambur, the DVAC sleuths on Thursday conducted a search at offices and residences of people connected to the case. The FIR names Landmark Housing Projects Managing Director T Udhayakumar, and KLP Projects Private Limited directors Sunil Khetpalia and Maneesh Parmar, apart from stating that other unidentified officials in various government departments could also be involved in the graft. The DVAC FIR was based on a complaint lodged by Rajiv Naidu, who had also initiated legal proceedings against Landmark Housing Projects before the Madras High Court in 2017.

राज्य ब्यूरो, रांची। हेमंत सोरेन की ईडी के हाथों गिरफ्तारी के बाद झारखंड में सियासी संकट के बादल देर शाम छंट गए जब राज्यपाल सीपी राधाकृष्णन ने विधायक दल के नेता चम्पाई सोरेन को शपथ ग्रहण के लिए आमंत्रण दे दिया। चम्पाई नए मुख्यमंत्री के तौर पर शुक्रवार को शपथ लेंगे।शपथ ग्रहण के बाद उन्हें 10 दिन के अंदर बहुमत साबित करना होगा। चम्पाई सोरेन के साथ कांग्रेस और राजद कोटे से एक- एक मंत्री भी शपथ लेंगे। इनमें क्रमशः आलमगीर आलम और सत्यानंद भोक्ता होंगे। इससे पहले झारखंड में पूरे दिन सियासी उठापटक जारी रही।पूरे दिन रही हलचलझामुमो-कांग्रेस-राजद गठबंधन की ओर से चम्पाई को नया नेता चुन लिया गया फिर भी राज्यपाल ने उन्हें सरकार बनाने के लिए आमंत्रित नहीं किया था। चम्पाई के शपथ ग्रहण पर असमंजस के बीच महागठबंधन के विधायकों को एकजुट रखने के लिए भी मशक्कत की जाती रही।विधायकों को तोड़ने की गुंजाइश खत्म करने के लिए महागठबंधन के 38 विधायकों को गुरुवार को दो विशेष विमान से हैदराबाद भेजने की तैयारी थी मगर मौसम इसमें बाधक बना। दो घंटे से अधिक समय तक विमान में बैठकर मौसम साफ होने का इंतजार करने के बाद विधायक एयरपोर्ट से वापस लौट गए।फिलहाल विधायकों को रांची स्थित सर्किट हाउस में ठहराया गया है। विधायक दिन में ही हैदराबाद जाने वाले थे, लेकिन खराब मौसम के कारण दिल्ली से रांची विमान आने में भी देर हुई। इसी बीच देर शाम राज्यपाल ने चम्पाई को शपथ ग्रहण के लिए समय दे दिया।चम्पाई ने किया स्थिर सरकार का दावाबुधवार रात को हेमंत के इस्तीफे के तत्काल बाद ही चम्पाई ने महागठबंधन के 47 विधायकों के समर्थन के साथ सरकार बनाने के लिए दावा पेश कर दिया था, लेकिन राज्यपाल ने उन्हें शपथ ग्रहण कराने को लेकर कोई स्पष्ट संकेत नहीं दिए। गुरुवार को देर रात तक राजभवन की चुप्पी बरकरार रही। इस बीच महागठबंधन के नेताओं की बैचेनी बढ़ी रही। दोपहर को चम्पाई ने दोबारा राज्यपाल को पत्र लिखकर कहा कि दो दिनों से सरकार के गठन को लेकर राज्यपाल द्वारा निर्णय नहीं लिए जाने से असमंजस की स्थिति है।राज्यपाल को सौंपा 43 विधायकों का समर्थन पत्रइसके बाद शाम में राज्यपाल सीपी राधाकृष्णन से मिलकर उन्होंने दोबारा 43 विधायकों का समर्थन पत्र सौंपा। कहा कि कुछ और विधायकों के रांची पहुंचने से उनके पास 45-46 विधायक हो जाएंगे। दावा किया कि बहुमत उनके साथ है तथा वे राज्य में स्थिर सरकार देने में सक्षम हैं।इसके बाद भी असमंजस की स्थिति बरकरार रही, महागठबंधन के नेता अगले दिन की रणनीति बनाने में जुट गए। इसी बीच रात लगभग 11.30 बजे राज्पपाल ने चम्पाई को बुलाकर शपथ दिलाने की घोषणा कर दी। झारखंड की 81 सदस्यीय विधानसभा में बहुमत के लिए 41 विधायकों की जरूरत है।

AP businessman arrested for faking death
RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM : East Godavari police arrested a bankrupt businessman, who faked his death to claim insurance money, on Wednesday. The police also arrested three others for assisting the prime accused. According to Anaparti CI P Siva Ganesh, Ketamalla Venkateswararao, a resident of Rangampet, incurred losses in his business and hatched a plan to claim insurance amount of Rs 40 lakh by faking his death. As planned, the group cremated the body at Venkateswararao’s land and fled from the scene. However, Venkateswararao contacted his bereaved wife, following which police took Venkateswararao and three others into their custody, where they confessed to the crime.

INDIA, January 31, 2024 (Hindustan Times): A Varanasi district court on Wednesday allowed the Hindu side to offer prayers in the southern cellar of Gyanvapi mosque. The court directed the Varanasi district magistrate to make arrangements for pooja to be performed by the Hindu side and a pujari nominated by Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust. On January 17, the Varanasi district court appointed the district magistrate as the receiver, directing him to keep the cellar safe and not allow any change in it. Everyone will have the right to perform puja,” Vishnu Shankar Jain, the lawyer representing the Hindu side, said. The mosque has four tahkhanas (cellars) in the basement out of which one is still in possession of the Vyas family who used to live here.
