National Housing Authority in the offing to address increasing deficit - Abdulai Abanga
The authority, the minister explains will primarily focus on the supply side of the housing market which is currently in deficit figures. “For this reason, processes have begun to set up a National Housing Authority (NHA) to lead the supply-side of the housing market. The National Housing Authority will not only serve as a regulator in the sector but also plan, develop, and manage housing development in Ghana. Already, Ghana’s housing deficit currently stands at around 2 million units with real estate prices also shooting above the roof and some even quoted in foreign currency. Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso Boakye has estimated that 60 percent of the Ghanaian populace will require government assistance to gain access to decent housing.

Team Ghana finishes 10th on African Medal Table at Tokyo Olympic Games

The sole medal won by boxer Samuel Takyi proved to be the only medal that Team Ghana won at the multisport event. For the first time in 29 years, the sport of boxing once again placed Ghana on the medal table after Samuel Takyi won bronze in the men's featherweight division, having reached the semi-final stage. The Ghana Olympic Committee and the various sporting federation heads had hoped Ghana would add to her medal haul but that was not to be. Egypt and Ethiopia followed with 6 and 4 medals respectively but were ranked lower because they had more bronze medals than gold or silver.

19-year-old sentenced to 15 years imprisonment over attempt to snatch motorcycle
According to Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Ofori, the complainant (Isaac Mensah) who is a motor rider, was hired by Daniel to transport him from Mile 5 to Agyeikrom. While on their way, the boy who was sitting behind the driver on the motor stabbed him at the back in an attempt to abscond with his bike. The okada driver struggled with the boy who upon realising that he was being overpowered, run into a nearby bush after being chased by the rider. The okada rider was sent to the Obuasi Government Hospital for treatment and has been discharged according to a report by GNA. The convict who pleaded guilty to robbery and causing harm unlawfully was sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment for stabbing the motor rider.

FLASHBACK: Too many checkpoints hinder internatinal trade – GSA boss
This was revealed in a speech read on his behalf at a stakeholders’ forum on Trade Facilitation and Road Governance at Paga in the Kassena –Nankana West District of the Upper East Region. This is due to many checkpoints mounted by the Police and Customs at Ghana’s transit corridors to neighbouring countries. These checkpoints have been identified as part of the major challenges facing trade facilitation and robbing the country of its economic resources. It was aimed at updating and sensitising the players in the trade and transport industries on the current development on the Ghana’s Northbound Transit corridor. Tamale Interchange to be completed in three months – Urban Roads
The Tamale interchange records a total length of 1 kilometre bridge and ramps, and 5 kilometres of ancillary road works. In an update to President Akufo-Addo on the road construction progress, Alhaji Awudu indicated that out of 19 spans, 13 spans including the ramps have been completed, the report by Asaase Radio revealed. On the remaining six spans, he said work is currently ongoing noting that ancillary works, mainly asphalting, street lighting and road safety works are expected to be completed in the next three months. He also paid a visit to other road networks like the 100-kilometres of roads construction within the Northern, North East and Savannah Regions. The work which started in March 2021 is expected to be completed in September 2022, according to the contractor, M/S Queroz Galvao Konstruktion.

Some doctors [are not paying income tax] …so you begin to see all of these professionals, all of us on social media ranting against the government and [realise] that most of these people are not even paying taxes,” the finance minister stressed. Though there is still work to be in generating more revenue, Ken Ofori-Atta said the GRA is making changes to its structure in order to ensure these efforts yield results.

He explained that but for the fact that he was buckled in his seatbelt, it could have been worse. Latif described his experience as a close shave as there were no casualties in both vehicles in the aftermath of the accident. Three arrested in connection with murder of a 45-year-old Okada rider in Ashanti Region
