A statement issued on Monday explained that though the agreement has been ratified by Ghana’s Parliament, the process for its implementation is yet to be completed. “It has come to the attention of the Embassy that some publication on the internet and social media suggest that Ghana passport holders can now travel visa-free to the United Arab Emirates following the ratification by the Parliament of Ghana of the Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Exemption of Entry Visa Requirements between Ghana and United Arab Emirates”“The Embassy urges the public to disregard all such publications and messages. The service is expected to resume by the end of August 2021 after the completion of concrete drain across the railway track. Providing an update before Parliament last week, the Railway Minister revealed the top slab on the concrete drain along the route at Avenor had been completed with a curing period beginning. The rehabilitated Accra-Tema railway system is expected to reduce travel time significantly. It is estimated that many passengers will be recorded annually as they use the train service, which will in turn help reduce traffic congestion, accidents and pollution.

“I will call more for their regulation than completely abandoning or banning their operation,” he said in an interview on Asaase Radio. Greater Accra Minister, Henry Quartey, has vowed to make the capital city, Accra, the cleanest city in Africa. The law, according to the minister, is to prevent3 motorbike riders, abandoned vehicles on streets, and also ban tricycles (Aboboyaa) from using the Highways and Principal streets in the Greater Accra Region. But Eric Oduro Osai disagreed with the ban stating that the use of tricycles, popularly referred to as ‘aboboyaa’ comes in handy in areas where other vehicles find difficult to use. He believes aboboyaa is beneficial for the transporting of passengers and carting goods reiterating that a total ban is not the best.

However, if there are cocoa clinics in their respective districts, it will afford them the necessary healthcare needed. But cocoa farmers in the villages did not get any of these incentives. Nana Thomas Boakye appealed to COCOBOD to be in constant touch with the farmers at the grassroots to know their challenges.

According to the Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kpetoe Police District, Benedicta Akpene, the body of the 46-year-old woman identified as Patience Nyormeviadzi was discovered wrapped in black cloth in one of the rooms at the camp. DSP Akpene told the Ghanaian Times that, the body was smeared with a substance believed to preserve the body with a standing fan directed on the deceased when the policed stormed the church premises. The police suspect that the pastors had adopted a plan to bury Patience who had visited the camp for prayers but died at the church premises. The head pastor of the camp, Eklu Yao Mawuli and his two associates pastors, Alex Aimo Atsu and Joshia Saku, who were earlier arrested have been granted bail and currently assisting with police investigations.

It will be recalled that the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, appeared before an ad hoc Committee constituted by parliament to look into the controversial procurement of some 3.4 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccines for the country. The nine-member non-partisan Committee established among other things that the minister breached procurement processes and lied under oath. Since then, there have been many mounting calls for Kwaku Agyeman-Manu to resign as investigations continue. He [Kwaku Agyeman-Manu] told the Committee that he wasn’t aware of any payment made but it turned out that they had paid $2,850,000 out of $5,700,000 and there are just too many issues around this Sputnik V procurement. We’ve had health ministers sacked – the South African health minister is an example, and I think that President Akufo-Addo has to show some balls and show that he is really interested in helping us fight this, for the health and safety of all Ghanaians,” she explained.

This comes after the central bank last week announced that is has expanded a list of institutions required to partake in the Credit Reporting System (CRS) established under the Credit Reporting Act, 2007 (Act 726). The CRS is a database established to promote the sharing of information on the credit history of debtors with lenders and other users on the platform. Reacting to the development, Nana Otuo Acheampong said inaccurate data collected will hamper the likelihood of innocent borrowers being subjected to unfair treatment by lenders. We have instances where after paying for loans, banks still have inaccurate information on borrowers years later, which will affect your credit worthiness. A statement issued by the central bank explained that the expanded list for the Credit Reporting System will entail; retailers, utility companies, mobile money operators, financial technology firms, telecommunication companies and government entities that offer credit to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.

"Having realized the immense contribution and the development drive of the Akufo-Addo led government, I am very optimistic that Ghanaians will vote for the NPP in 2024," he added. He furthered that he will rather allow God to take his life than to see his political opponent, National Democratic Congress (NDC), win the presidential seat in 2024. President Akufo-Addo pointed that GIISDEC played a vital in Ghana’s industrialisation efforts and therefore charged Mr Farouk Mahama to steer the affairs of the corporation prudently. Farouk Aliu Mahama’s maternal grandfather, Alhaji Imoro Egala, was Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister in the First Republic (1960-1961) and later Trade and Industries Minister.

The NPP had five seats going into the elections but had only three after the elections, and the NDC has six. He was addressing chiefs and elders at a durbar at the beginning of his two-day tour on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
