According to him, the piloting of the platform commenced from June to December 2020 and has a record of 624,000 persons registering on the platform. Speaking at the official launch of the platform on July 14 at the Jubilee House, Ken Ofori-Atta said Ghana.Gov is intended to make accessible government’s services to the general public in a much convenient manner. “The Ghana.gov platform was piloted from June to December 2020 and a total of 624,000 persons have registered and over 5.8 million transactions have taken place with a total value of GH¢20.2 billion,” he revealed. Already, the Ghana.Gov platform during its pilot phase at the Ministry of Tourism is said to have witnessed a four-fold increase in revenue at some major tourist centres in the country.

Alban Bagbin on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, reminded the MPs to carry themselves in ways that fit the office they occupy. He urged them to be guided with their comments on media platforms and not assume that being members of parliament shields them from the effect of reckless statements. Alban Bagbin said that the constitution reigns supreme in the country and any MP who falls foul of the law will not be given undue protection by Parliament. You don’t have that right, that privilege, that immunity to just say anything because you are a member of parliament. He said the decision to decide whether there is merit in the petition before the house by the media house lies in the bosom of Parliament as an institution and not just Speaker Bagbin.

Lawmakers in the last parliament (Led by Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye) wrote to the president on January 5, requesting that the president considers the elevation. Their correspondence which touched on different aspects of the last Presidential Committee on Emolument’s recommendation under the heading: “Equating Members of Parliament to High Court Justices,” read:“The House observed that the Presidential Committee on Emoluments for Article 71 Office Holders ranks Hon. The correspondence continued: “Parliament has decided that members of parliament be placed on a level analogous to that of the above mentioned heads in respect of emoluments, benefits and other amenities. The recommendations of the emoluments committee has become a topical issue particularly where it recommended the formalization of payments to wives of the president and his vice.

The president’s letter read: “Much as I appreciate the reasons given for your request for 12.5% salary increment, I believe in the public interest, and to avoid controversy, we maintain the same rate of salary increment across the public sector. “Accordingly, I recommend an 11.4% increase as has been granted public sector workers every year within the span of time,” it added. The revelations in the letter were shared publicly for the first time on Good Evening Ghana program by host Paul Adom-Otchere on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. The recommendations of the emoluments committee have become a topical issue particularly where it recommended the formalization of payments to wives of the president and his vice.

The committee recommended payment of salaries to the spouses of the President and Vice as part of benefits enjoyed by the president and his vice. The recommendation has been opposed the National Democratic Congress with two of their MPs suing the government at the Supreme Court over the constitutionality of the new arrangement. Discussions on the emolument has compelled First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo to reject the recommendations and also refund all amount paid her as allowances since she assumed the role in 2017. Kwesi Pratt said the constitution is clear that in matters like this, the president acts as ‘conveyor belt’ and passes on the petition to the Chief Justice to decide if there is some merit in the petition. Charlotte Osei, it will be recalled was removed as EC chair in June 2018 following a recommendation by a committee formed by the then Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo. The committee after probing the allegations made against Charlotte Osei by some staff of the Electoral Commission proposed she and two other deputy commissioners be fired. The President adopted the recommendations and fired Charlotte Osei along with her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa.

Across the world, it has been established that, in comparison, the Pfizer vaccine is more potent against the new delta variant of the virus, which has been recorded in communities. So far, the country has recorded 144 cases of the delta variant between July 1 and July 14.

The NDC dragged Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the substantive MP, and the EC to court to contest the results of the 2020 parliamentary elections in Techiman South. Christopher Beyere Baasongti, who was the parliamentary candidate of the NDC for Techiman South in 2020, as part of the suit against Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah and the EC, is praying the court to quash the declaration of the MP as winner of the elections. The trial judge, Justice Frederick A.W.K Nawurah, slapped a fine of GH¢12,000 on the NDC, in favour of the Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah and the EC. It will be recalled that on June 22, 2021, the Wenchi High Court slapped a GH¢4000 fine on the NDC after reducing the initial fine of GH¢7000. This was, as the court explained, for the petitioner’s motions to amend the title of his suit to state that 'no proper collation' was done in the 2020 Techiman South Parliamentary elections, among another relief.
