Ghana Card not replacing passports but an alternative to travel in West Africa – NIA clarifies
According to the NIA, the Ghana Card does not replace the passports but can rather be used as an alternative passport to travel across West Africa only. He debunked claims that the Ghana Card will be used in place of the passport for travelling. “There is a portion for individual passport information on the Ghana Card that can facilitate the purpose of travel, but it doesn’t mean that the Ghana Card is going to replace the passport. “Within the West African sub-region at the moment, once you carry your Ghana passport, at every checking point, they can easily look at the Ghana card and once they are able to establish your identity, they will allow you to cross the border. Meanwhile, the NIA has now linked the Ghana Card with the NHIS Card on its database, this will ensure that citizens have access to healthcare services by just holding a Ghana Card.

BizTech: New freight charges too high for us - GUTA bemoans
They indicated that it is unacceptable for the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to adopt the new shipping freight into their duty calculations. President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Dr Joseph Obeng, in an interview with GhanaWeb’s Ernestina Serwaa Asante on BizTech programme called on the Customs Division of GRA to revert to the collection of old charges. He explained that the price difference from the standard price is too high. “The freight charges that customs decided to input into the duty calculation should not be introduced and that we should use the standard prices… The old freight charge should be used and that is fair,” he said on BizTech. Dr Obeng, however, pointed out that the hike in price is a global problem attributing the increment to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Four Koreans in Ghanaian owned vessel abducted by pirates in Gulf of Guinea
New reports have said that another set of four Koreans aboard a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Guinea have been abducted by pirates who are on rampage in the region. In May of this year, all five members of a crew onboard a Ghanaian-registered fishing vessel, Atlantic Princess, were captured by pirates off the Atlantic. He added that the kidnappers shot into the Atlantic Princess, damaging it, after which some eight pirates abducted the vessel's Korean captain, three Chinese and a Russian. The vessel then stopped and seven armed pirates with AK 47 boarded the vessel,” he explained. The Iris S’s remaining 31 crew members were however unharmed and were escorted back to port by a Ghana Navy patrol boat, the report said.

Police clash with youth at Ahafo, leaving 5 with gunshot wounds
The incident took place at Ntotroso in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region, after clashing with police, the report added. ASP Isaac Kwame Loh, who is the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ahafo Police Command, explained that the protesting youth stormed Newmont’s premises and opened fire on the security officers who were at post there. He added that attempts upon attempts to halt the youth from the “firing of their weapons” were unsuccessful, pushing for the police to launch a reprisal attack. “They had weapons like cutlasses and some action guns and broke into the camp amidst firing of weapons. Foreign-trained doctors express grievance over delays in releasing licensure exam results
According to them, several efforts have been made to get the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) to release the results but all efforts have proved futile. “As duly communicated to us by the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), the results were to be released within a period of two to four weeks from the date of the exams. “To our utter dismay, the MDC registered another batch of foreign-trained doctors for a licensure exam, which was conducted on 25th June 2021. As it stands, this won’t be possible this time around, since October is 11 weeks away and no results have been released. Meanwhile, the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), has served notice that it will soon respond to the concerns of the foreign-trained doctors.
