“These are good food preservation practices that we have to still continue if we have the means to do them and get them done well,” he said. Mr. Antwi emphasised that traditional food preservation methods were safe but should be approached with caution when modern alternatives are also available. He expressed concern that, due to adulteration, it could be challenging to distinguish between correct and incorrect traditional methods. “Understanding expiration dates, practising good hygiene in the kitchen, and utilising appropriate preservation methods can significantly reduce food waste,” he said. He encouraged those who can confidently and skilfully employ traditional methods to continue doing so.

Small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana’s textile and garment manufacturing industry will soon be positioned as front-liners for transformative development, decent job creation, and environmentally friendly practices. This follows the validation of a strategic action plan to promote SMEs in the textile and garment sector by the Association of Ghana Apparel Manufacturers (AGAM) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The two organisations validated the action plan at a workshop in Accra on Wednesday, where a website was launched to increase the sector’s digital presence and tell the story of Ghana’s thriving garment sector. Mr. Marcos explained that the needs of the textile and garment manufacturing SMEs were similar: technology transfer, modern equipment, finance, advocacy, and improved working conditions. Addressing those challenges, he added, required collaboration and a shared strategic plan, which the ILO was ready to support.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), one of the country's major political players, has a remarkable tradition of choosing its vice presidential candidates from the northern regions of Ghana, with one notable exception in the year 1996. The year 1996 saw John Agyekum Kufuor leading the NPP's charge, accompanied by a unique choice for a running mate, Kow Nkensen Arkaah. For the NPP, whose core support base lies within the Akan community, the choice of a northern running mate holds strategic importance. Therefore, selecting a running mate from the Volta Region, which is electorally hostile to the NPP, may not yield significant gains. Over time, the north has emerged as a reliable supplier of vice presidential candidates for both the NDC and the NPP.
