Business News of Saturday, 18 September 2021Source: GNAThe Public Interest and Accountability Committee’s (PIAC) Report on Oil Revenue shows that Ghana has bagged over US$6.5 billion over the last ten years of mining the “black gold”. Out of the US$6.550 billion received from 2011 to 2020, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation received $2,012.16 billion, representing about 30.72 percent, Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA) had $2,557.12 billion (39.04 percent), the Ghana Heritage Fund had $0.587 billion (8.97 percent), while the Ghana Stabilisation Fund received $1,393.18 billion (21.27 percent). Professor Kwame Adom-Frimpong, the Chairman of PIAC, disclosed this at a forum in Takoradi for stakeholders in the Western and Central regions. Prof Adom-Frimpong said as a citizen-led group, the PIAC would continue to engage the people to have collective views on the usage of revenue from the resource. He urged the PIAC to create more visibility and employ lots of languages for effective communication among the populace.

The girl, whose name has been withheld because she is a minor, was at a special needs school in Jinja District. The school supports children with visual and hearing impairments and mental illness. The minor’s 50-year-old mother on Wednesday said her daughter was sexually abused twice; first in 2020 and again early this year, and conceived on both occasions. She said following the second incident, her daughter is now undergoing family planning for three years to avoid being sexually abused again. He said when the little girls are in school, there are fewer chances of them being sexually abused.

Fisheries Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson has recounted how a night of prayer with her Christian husband changed her religious leaning from being a staunch Muslim to a Christian. She shared her journey to Christianity when she appeared on the September 16 edition of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana programme. “Marrying a Christian wasn’t a problem because the conclusion was that I was going to remain as a Muslim woman and he will remain in his Christianity, but when I gave birth to my firstborn, I had a terrible dream,” she recounted. When she woke up, she called her husband and they had a Christian prayer and the problem was later solved so she joined him for that Sunday’s service and ever since then has held on to her faith. She disclosed that her husband who is a civil servant was a Methodist, “so I joined the Methodist and since then, I have been a Methodist.”
