In the orphan constituencies' parliamentary elections held on Saturday, December 2, Okraku-Mantey garnered 136 votes, while his opponent, Ida Adwoa Asiedu, emerged victorious with 410 votes. Other aspirants, Ernest Addo and Kingsley Boateng Adomah, secured 4 and 3 votes, respectively. Meanwhile, in the Adentan Constituency, Akosua Manu (Kozie), the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Youth Authority, emerged as the parliamentary candidate. Kozie secured 814 votes, surpassing her closest contender, Kwasi Obeng Fosu, who obtained 638 votes.

The deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, has won the Okaikwei North New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary with 341 votes. She beat the former deputy chief executive of MASLOC Alberta Afia Akoto and the former MP for the constituency, Fuseini Issa. Veteran editor of Daily Searchlight newspaper Kenneth Kwabena Agyei Kuranchie polled 27 votes, Prince Owusu Mensah had six votes and Akoto had 228 votes. The other two, Nyarko Stephen Adipa, garnered 108 votes, while Fuseini Issa managed 114 votes. The vice president, who is now the new leader of the NPP, showed up in grand style with his wife, Samira, and a powerful government and NPP delegation. Unsurprisingly, Dr. Bawumia was accorded a mammoth welcome when his entourage arrived at the Manhyia Palace. Scores of people besieged the bus carrying the veep and his delegation of close to 10 ministers of State and over 100 NPP MPs and led the entourage through a procession to the Palace.

The Asantehene-Dormaahene rivalry aside, Asanteman shook the Bono land during the funeral of the late Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II. Asanteman stormed Berekum with over 40 vehicles, including at least 10 VIP buses and the Otumfuo’s convey which was made up of more than 20 Toyota Land Cruisers, one Rang Rover and two Toyota Tundra as well as police vehicles and motors. Everyone at the funeral grounds was up, trying to get a glimpse of the overlord of Asanteman. There was singing, dancing, drumming and other wonderful displays of Akan culture at every corner of the funeral ground, the Omanhene Park in Berekum.

According to the report, the person at the forefront of the potential dismissals is Edward Owusu, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atebubu Amantin. The report also indicates that nine other MMDCEs are expected to follow suit. Citing Kennedy Agyapong’s brother and lawyer, Ralph Agyapong as his source, Nana Frimpong Ziega mentioned that the meeting was not as fruitful as has been widely publicized. He claimed that while Kennedy Agyapong accepted to join Bawumia’s campaign for the 2024 elections, he outlined some conditions that the Bawumia team found difficult to guarantee. They should be transparent so that we can all come together and beg Kennedy Agyapong. In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, Vanderpuye expressed his frustration with the challenges faced by Members of Parliament (MPs) in the execution of their duties. He highlighted the lack of protection from political parties, leading to mounting pressure and a loss of interest over time. “I am leaving parliament because I am frustrated; the [political] parties really do not protect the people they have [in parliament]. “The attrition rate in parliament is too high, and as such, people do not get the sort of experience they require to advance the work of parliament," Vanderpuye remarked. Vanderpuye highlighted the importance of parliamentary experience, noting that Speaker Alban Bagbin's success is attributed to his lengthy experience as a Member of Parliament.
