Sports News of Monday, 12 January 2026Source: www.ghanaweb.comArsenal have moved to sharpen one of the most overlooked weapons in modern football by bringing in long-throw and throw-in specialist Thomas Grønnemark as part of their Premier League title push. The league leaders are already the most dangerous side from set-pieces this season, having scored 14 goals from set pieces, more than any other team. However, one area still missing from their attacking armoury is the throw-in. During that period, Liverpool won every major trophy available, and throw-ins became a key part of their attacking structure. Since the start of last season, no Premier League club has scored more goals from throw-in situations than the Bees.

But for some, the weight is far more personal; a burden no football pitch should ever have to witness. Behind every anthem sung and every flag waved, there are men stepping onto the pitch with private grief burning inside them. While millions watch for goals and glory, some players are playing for something far heavier than qualification or trophies. Some players walk out of the tunnel not just as professionals, but as sons, fathers and brothers in mourning. Burkina Faso midfielder, Stéphane Aziz Ki suffered the unimaginable: the death of his young son while playing at the 2025 AFCON.

He finished third and second in the league in consecutive seasons, reached several semifinals, and a Europa League final. He struggled in his second season with a rigid playing style, but a surprise FA Cup win over Manchester City kept him in charge. His second season was equally inconsistent, with his average of 1.23 points per game the lowest of any United manager on this list.

The report, titled "Evaluating the Macroeconomic Effects of the Ghana Gold Board" (GoldBod), presents an analytical view of GoldBod’s centralised gold purchasing and export framework in safeguarding the sector. Formalisation benefits far exceed BoG’s reported loss.”Addressing concerns about the Central Bank’s reported losses, the report emphasised that the figures had been misrepresented. It argued that GoldBod should be widely viewed as a macroeconomic stabilization mechanism rather than a profit-making venture. “GoldBod should be regarded not as a profit-driven trading entity, but as a tool for macroeconomic stabilisation and formalisation. “GoldBod has delivered substantial, measurable macroeconomic benefits that exceed its narrow accounting costs.
