Ethiopian has earned over 1.1 billion U.S. dollars in revenue from the export of coffee in the past 11 months, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority has said. In May, Ethiopia generated about 150 million dollars from the export of over 27,000 tons of coffee, taking overall export revenue over the past 11 months to about 1.15 billion dollars in total, according to figures from the authority. “By the end of June, we hope that the nation will achieve a similar amount of export revenue as that of last year,” Debela said. “This fiscal year, the price of coffee in the global market has decreased but the price of Ethiopian coffee has increased due to the increase in quality.”Debela said Ethiopia will further boost its coffee export in the coming fiscal year by exporting quality coffee to more market destinations. Ethiopia, which is known as the origin of Arabica coffee, is widely recognized for its rich coffee quality and flavor, which ranges from winy to fruity and chocolatey, making its coffee varieties on demand across the globe.

Lego, dolls, toys, children’s books and games were among the gifts distributed by the teens to patients in the children’s ward. The teens committed their time after school volunteering at the hospital, choosing toys and books to go into the bags and then personally delivering them to the patients. This is one of the many tikkun olam initiatives that teens in the Cairns Jewish community get involved in throughout the year. “I got goosebumps looking at the smile on one of the children there,” said a nurse at Cairns Hospital.

In its latest Global Trends in Forced Displacement report, the U.N. refugee agency reported Wednesday that the number of people who have been forced to flee their homes because of war, persecution, human rights abuse and climate change had reached an all-time high of 108.4 million in 2022. “Every year, this figure has been rising,” said Filippo Grandi, U.N. high commissioner for refugees, noting that new data show that last year’s record number of forcibly displaced already has been smashed. It said the eruption of fighting in Sudan in mid-April largely pushed the current global total of forcibly displaced people to 110 million. Belying common perceptions, UNHCR statistics confirm that most displaced people around the world are hosted in low-and-middle-income countries, not in wealthy nations. “We are in a very polarized world, where international tensions play out all the way into humanitarian issues, he said.
