Ethiopian PM says government is ready to resolve conflicts through dialogue
Kasahun Folo, told the reporter that one of the questions CETU leaders forwarded to the Prime Minister was related to a security issue. Stating that workers in some organisations are killed and taken hostage by armed men, CETU leaders forwarded the questions believing that conflicts should be resolved peacefully. “It is right to raise the question from the perspective of ensuring production and productivity,” the Premier told CETU leaders, according to the President, Kasahun. The Prime Minister, who conveyed his message to leaders of CETU, said that the government wants peace. Kasahun pointed out that the Prime Minister responded positively to the various questions CETU leaders had raised in the discussion that lasted for three hours.

Pittards PLC - Yeovil, Somerset-based leather goods producer - Further to announcement last month, confirms it has appointed Lucy Winterborne and Daniel Hurd, administrators from Ernst & Young LLP, as joint administrators to the company. Says the joint administrators are at an advanced stage of negotiations to sell its business and assets, including its Ethiopian subsidiaries. Says that if the transaction cannot be concluded, the joint administrators will assess available options to realise value for the Pittards' creditors. Says the joint administrators will be contacting shareholders "in due course" with further information on the administration process and the sale of Pittards' business and assets. Also notes WH Ireland has informed Pittards of its intention to resign as nominated adviser and broker with immediate effect.

African Development Bank Group – AfDB debars Ethiopian firm and its chairperson for fraudulent practices
The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has announced the 15-month debarment of Beza Consulting Engineers PLC and its Chairperson and General Manager, Gidey Gebregzibher, effective from 21 August 2023. Beza Consulting Engineers PLC, a consulting firm registered in Ethiopia, and Gidey were found to have engaged in fraudulent practices during a tender for the Provision of Consultancy Services for the Kapoeta-Boma-Raad Road Project, the bank said. - Advertisement -During the debarment period, Beza Consulting, its affiliates, and Gidey are not allowed to engage in any Bank Group-financed activities. To resume participation after the debarment period, Beza Consulting must implement an integrity compliance program in accordance with the Bank’s guidelines. Gidey will also need to complete an accredited business ethics and integrity training consistent with the Bank’s guidelines, according to the Bank.

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has announced a 15-month debarment of Beza Consulting Engineers PLC and Mr Gidey Gebrezgabher Gebremariam, effective from 21 August 2023. In a press release, the AfDB said that Beza Consulting Engineers PLC is a consulting firm registered under the laws of Ethiopia, while Mr Gidey Gebrezgabher Gebremariam is the Chairperson of the Board and General Manager of the firm. The statement said: “An investigation conducted by the Bank’s Office of Integrity and Anti-Corruption found that Beza Consulting Engineers PLC and Mr Gidey Gebrezgabher Gebremariam engaged in fraudulent practices during a tender for the Provision of Consultancy Services for the Kapoeta-Boma-Raad Road Project, a component of the Transport Facilitation and Road Upgrading Studies of the Kampala-JubaAddis Ababa-Djibouti Corridor Programme.” The statement added that: “During the debarment period, Beza Consulting Engineers PLC and its affiliates as well as Mr Gidey Gebrezgabher Gebremariam, will be ineligible to participate in Bank Group-financed activities. “At the expiry of the debarment period, Beza Consulting Engineers PLC will only be eligible to resume participation in African Development Bank Group-financed activities after it implements an integrity compliance programme consistent with the Bank’s guidelines
