Boeing could have to delay deliveries of more of its bestselling 737 Max planes after a supplier found new production glitches, adding to pressure on the beleaguered US manufacturer. The aircraft maker will have to conduct work on about 50 undelivered planes after its supplier Spirit AeroSystems discovered two holes drilled incorrectly. Until the latest incident, Boeing had been trying to increase production of its 737 Max after years in the doldrums when two planes crashed because of design flaws. The model was grounded for nearly two years after 346 people died onboard Lion Air flight 610 in October 2018 and Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 in March 2019. A Boeing spokesperson pointed to a public letter to Boeing staff from the chief executive of the commercial planes arm, Stan Deal.

ADDIS ABABA – ‘Abbay II’, the nation’s largest bulk vessel, completed its median cargo delivery months after the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics (ESL) announced its acquisition. The national flag carrier brought in the bulk vessel last July to respond to the growing demand for cargo transport. ‘Our first-ever largest bulk carrier Abbay II’ docked at Djibouti Port for the first time carrying Ethiopian cargo after she registered and started sailing under the flag of Ethiopia, per ESL. ‘Abbay II’ can carry 63,229 tons of cargo per trip, making it the biggest of all the 10 ships currently owned by Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics. ESL – the only national Flag carrier in Africa – provides shipping services to 345 international ports.

His heir sold the Kwer’ata Re’esu and in 1950 it ended up being acquired by the Portuguese art historian Luís Reis Santos. The Art Newspaper report on the astonishing story of the Kwer’ata Re’esu in 1998 led to behind-the-scenes action by Portuguese officials. She believes that the Kwer’ata Re’esu was in effect “kidnapped during a violent punitive raid” by the British—and it should be returned. The Kwer’ata Re’esu continues to be in limbo, out of sight, while Ethiopians are calling for its restitution.

The risk of a humanitarian catastrophe in northern Ethiopia is growing, Andrew Mitchell, the UK’s Africa minister, said on his return from a two-day trip to the region. The UK, which has long made Ethiopia a priority country, is slowly reversing large cuts to its aid programme. On his trip Mitchell met the Ethiopian prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, in Addis Ababa and travelled to the Tigray regional capital, Mekelle. “Across northern Ethiopia, millions of people are facing hunger,” he said. Climate change and El Niño have fuelled local exoduses, with 400,000 displaced in the Somali region of Ethiopia last November alone.
