In 2019, cremation surpassed burial as the most common way to care for someone after death, according to the National Funeral Directors Association. But cremation necessitates the release of more than 500 pounds of carbon dioxide, according to National Geographic. Alkaline hydrolysis, which is similar to chemical cremation, has a lower carbon footprint than traditional cremation, according to the Cremation Association of North America. Natural organic reduction reduces the body to nutrient-rich soil. Recompose, the first company in the U.S. to offer natural organic reduction, sets its price tag at $5,500.

(Reuters) – The close of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics does not mean the end of financial questions surrounding an event that went ahead without spectators and cost more than twice as much to host as initially planned. BUDGETThe bill for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics is expected to be 1.64 trillion yen https://myinfo.tokyo2020.org/general-search/facts-and-stats-tokyo-2020-olympic-and-paralympic-games ($15 billion), 22% higher than it was before the Games were delayed in 2020. That figure is also twice as much as the 800 billion yen estimate Tokyo submitted in its bid to host the games. In 2019 they spent nearly 4.81 trillion yen https://www.reuters.com/article/us-olympics-2020-cancellation-economy-fa-idUSKBN20Q0MD ($43.6 billion) in Japan at hotels, restaurants, shops and for other services. A normal Olympics could have added 0.33% to gross domestic product (GDP), or around 1.8 trillion yen, Nomura Research Institute estimated before the Games.

Not one Badminton World Federation top-ranked player or pair won gold at this Olympics. In fact, in men’s singles and doubles and women’s doubles, the favourites did not medal at all. In men’s singles, Momota, world number one, was knocked out before the quarter-finals. Similarly, the world’s sixth best duo won the women’s doubles and men’s doubles gold went to team number three. Things were slightly more predictable in mixed doubles and women’s singles, where world number two, China’s Chen Fu Fei, beat world number one, Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying, in the women’s singles.

QUINCY, Calif. (Reuters) – At least eight people were missing Saturday as one of the worst wildfires in the nation scorched through Northern California communities, forest and tinder dry scrub in the Sierra Nevada mountains, destroying a historic gold rush town. Even as the calmer, less windy weather gave firefighters a break overnight with the Dixie fire, the third largest fire in California’s history, the Pulmas County Sheriff’s Office released the somber news. “We have received reports of eight unaccounted for individuals,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, asking for the public’s help in finding them. Five of the missing belong to the old mining town of Greenville where blazes leveled most of its downtown, about 160 miles north of Sacramento. By Steve KeatingTOKYO (Reuters) -Joseph Choong won the Olympic men’s modern pentathlon on Saturday to give Britain a sweep of the gold medals following Kate French’s win in the women’s event. In the laser run, athletes complete four laps of an 800 metres circuit with four shooting rounds where they must hit a target five times before returning to the course. In 1964, when the Games were last staged in Tokyo, modern pentathlon was held over five days but on Saturday the five events (200-metre swim, fencing, show jumping, shooting and running) were crammed into one action-packed afternoon. Competitors score points in the first three events which are translated into times and decide their starting positions for the final laser run. Choong had only the 14th best mark in the equestrian as Jung trimmed his advantage to 12 seconds going into the laser run.

(Reuters) -India has approved Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use, health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a tweet on Saturday, but the company said it was too early to give a delivery timeline. The pharmaceutical giant had applied for emergency use approval of its vaccine, the company had said on Friday. The shot will be brought to India through a supply agreement with homegrown vaccine maker Biological E Ltd, J&J had said. Fellow U.S. company Pfizer has yet to seek permission for use of its vaccine in India. India has administered 501 million vaccine doses, the largest of any country after China, but little over 10% of its adult population has been inoculated with both doses.

IZU, Japan (Reuters) – Denmark’s Lasse Norman Hansen and Michael Morkov combined brilliantly to triumph in a fierce scrap for Olympic gold in the newly-restored men’s madison at the Izu Velodrome on Saturday. They both reached the quarter-finals of the keirin and will go for gold on Sunday in an event with deep roots in Japan. In contrast to Britain’s romp to victory in the first-ever women’s Olympic madison on Friday, the 200-lap men’s race was an absorbing 50-minute battle waged at almost 60kph. Hansen is the first Danish rider to win multiple gold medals in Olympic track cycling, having won the omnium in 2012. “It was a great achievement to win gold in London but I was very young, I didn’t understand it fully at the time.

(Reuters) – Nathan Ellis admitted he was fortunate to be a member of Australia’s touring squad in Bangladesh after becoming the first male player to secure a Twenty20 hat-trick on his debut on Friday. “It was a surreal moment,” Ellis said of his feat, which had only previously been achieved in the women’s game by Nepal’s Anjali Chand. This whole tour has been a bit of a surreal experience for me. Captain Mahmudullah saw his off-stump clattered by Ellis before Mustafizur Rahman was caught in the outfield by Mitchell Marsh. The hat-trick was completed when Mahedi Hasan pulled his attempt into the hands of Ashton Agar at deep square leg.

Outbreaks of COVID-19 cases in eastern and southern Chinese provinces, the country’s main export hubs, had crimped factory output. China’s factory activity expanded at a slower pace in July due to higher raw material costs, equipment maintenance and extreme weather. China posted a trade surplus of $56.58 billion in July, compared with the poll’s forecast for a $51.54 billion surplus and $51.53 billion surplus in June. Its trade surplus with the United States rose to $35.4 billion, Reuters calculations based on customs data showed, up from $32.58 billion in June.
