In men’s singles, Momota, world number one, was knocked out before the quarter-finals. Similarly, the world’s sixth best duo won the women’s doubles and men’s doubles gold went to team number three. Things were slightly more predictable in mixed doubles and women’s singles, where world number two, China’s Chen Fu Fei, beat world number one, Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying, in the women’s singles.
