Live streaming platform Twitch has two users of engineering bots to flood Black and LGBTQ creators with abuse. The company filed a lawsuit last week alleging that users CruzzControl and CreatineOverdose specifically targeted Black and LGBTQ streamers by filling their stream chats with “racist, sexist, and homophobic language and content,” Buzzfeed News reports. As well as racist and anti-LGBTQ language, a number of streamers had their personal information leaked, including names and addresses. “However, as we work on solutions, bad actors work in parallel to find ways around them–which is why we can’t always share details.”They added: “In the meantime, please keep reporting these egregious attacks. It helps us identify and remove bad actors and their networks, and update tools as behaviors evolve.

(Reuters) – Formula One’s governing body will investigate Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix crash between title contenders Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton because it was ‘unusual’, according to race director Michael Masi. The Australian said that although the collision was relatively low-speed, the FIA’s safety experts would still take a look. “Our safety department does look at them in detail, investigate and see what we can learn and what we can improve for the future. Hamilton said it had been a shock to be hit on the head and the titanium ring had saved his life. Several F1 drivers have credited the device for saving their lives, including Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and former Haas racer Romain Grosjean.

BOSTON (Reuters) – California companies added Latino directors at the slowest pace among U.S. minority groups, a new study found, ahead of a year-end state deadline mandating more boardroom diversity. By contrast, 10% of new directors were Black or African-American, and 18% were Asian, according to the study. It found 83% of the state’s public company boards had no Latino or Hispanic directors. Boardroom diversity is closely watched in California, the most populous state and the headquarters of many top technology and entertainment companies. A similar law now requires California companies by the end of 2021 to have at least one director from an “underrepresented community” including people who self-identify as Black, Hispanic or Latino, Asian or LGBT.

HANOI (Reuters) – Vietnam’s coronavirus outbreak epicentre Ho Chi Minh City will extend its restrictions, state media reported on Monday, as the capital Hanoi and several provinces sought an easing of curbs and the aviation authority proposed domestic flights resume. Ho Chi Minh City authorities said an extension until the end of September was necessary to isolate clusters, speed up inoculations and prevent hospitals being overwhelmed in the city of 9 million people. “Overall, Ho Chi Minh City will still be under restrictions for another two weeks,” state-run Dan Tri newspaper quoted city vice chairman Duong Anh Duc as saying. Business hub Ho Chi Minh City accounts for half of those infections and 80% of fatalities. The current outbreak and movement curbs have impacted its manufacturing-led economy, with industrial output, exports and retail sales all down in August.

BEIJING (Reuters) -China has “too many” electric vehicle (EV) makers and the government will encourage consolidation, Industry and Information Technology Minister Xiao Yaqing said on Monday. The minister also said China would improve its charging network and develop EV sales in rural markets. Xiao said the ministry was speeding up alternative solutions to address an auto chip supply shortage. China’s market regulator last week fined three auto chip sales companies for driving up prices, in a move to help auto production in the world’s biggest vehicle market. A prolonged global chip shortage has affected major automakers, including Ford Motor, Honda Motor, and Volkswagen, forcing many to idle or curtail production.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Competing just a stone’s throw from the bright lights of Broadway, Daniil Medvedev delivered the performance of a lifetime to win the U.S. Open on Sunday and deny Novak Djokovic a rare calendar year Grand Slam. “I started cramping at 5-3, I think because of the pressure at 5-2 where I had match points, I didn’t make it,” he told reporters. “If you really look the replay, when I walked to the towel, my leg was just going behind. He had come close here two years ago, coming up short in the final after a five-set thriller against Rafa Nadal. I knew that the only thing I can do is focus,” said Medvedev.

Those talks stopped in June, and Iran’s hardline president, Ebrahim Raisi, took office in August. Now we have a solution.”The coordinator of the now-stalled nuclear talks, European Union political director Enrique Mora, said on Twitter that the agreement “gives space for diplomacy”, adding it was crucial for the talks to resume as soon as possible. The 2015 agreement introduced monitoring of extra areas of Iran’s nuclear programme beyond those supervised under Iran’s core legal obligations to the IAEA. With three months having passed more than two weeks ago, the agreement came as time was running out. Grossi said Iran had invited him to return soon and he expected to meet the country’s “highest authorities”.

TOKYO (Reuters) -Japan’s defence ministry said on Sunday that a submarine believed to be from China was spotted in waters near its southern islands, as maritime tensions persist in the Pacific. Japan’s navy on Friday morning identified a submerged vessel sailing northwest just outside territorial waters near Amami Oshima island, part of Kagoshima prefecture, the ministry said in a statement. Tokyo has complained https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-japan-china-navy-idUKKBN26W0BF of numerous intrusions by Chinese vessels into its territorial waters and near disputed islands in recent years. Sunday’s announcement said Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force identified the vessels in a contiguous zone, which is outside territorial waters where vessels are required to identify themselves. The submarine continued underwater westward in the ocean near Yokoate Island, the ministry said.

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s minister in charge of vaccines, Taro Kono, led a public opinion poll on who should succeed Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga as head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Suga, in a surprise move, said on Sept. 3 he would step down, marking an end to a one-year tenure that was marred by plunging public support and dissatisfaction with his coronavirus response. That set the stage for a Sept. 29 leadership vote among grassroots LDP members and lawmakers. Following the LDP leadership vote, Japan will likely hold a general election in the first half of November, Kyodo reported citing ruling party lawmakers. The Nikkei/TV Tokyo poll follows earlier ones showing strong public support for Kono, 58, to succeed Suga.
