(Reuters) -Resolving “tension” between high inflation and still-elevated unemployment is the most urgent issue facing the Federal Reserve right now, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday, acknowledging the central bank’s two goals are in potential conflict. The United States is more than 5 million jobs short of where it was before the pandemic. At the Fed’s most recent meeting policymakers lifted their inflation forecasts for this year to 4.2% – more than twice the targeted level of 2%. Typically the rates of unemployment and inflation are inversely related, partly due to monetary policy and the use of interest rates to either stimulate or depress the demand for goods and services, thus influencing prices and hiring. The issue now is how long that dislocation lasts, and whether inflation proves so persistent that it outruns improvement in the job market and forces the Fed to begin raising interest rates while unemployment is still high.

The European Commission later threatened to pull up to $150 million in funding for five local governments if they didn’t cancel the resolutions. In response, Podkarpackie, Lubelskie and Malopolskie scrapped their declarations on Monday. In an interview with BBC, Bart Staszewski, a Polish LGBTQ activist, praised the repeals while underscoring the need for further action. Ross Randall Johnson is a substitute teacher for the Dickinson-Iron School District in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, near the Wisconsin border. PARIS (Reuters) -Christian Dior showcased a burst of colorful 1960s- and 1970s-flavored mini dresses as crowds returned to its hometown show at the Paris fashion week. Chiuri swapped Dior’s signature, cinched Bar jackets for short, boxy cuts, rounding the shoulders and pairing them with mini skirts and bermuda shorts. “I bring this reference in the silhouette, in the bold colour and also it’s very graphic,” said Chiuri. Patterns included neon leopard prints and pastel camouflages as well as animal images that were blown up and applied with embroidery techniques. It feels different but it also feels encouraging that we’ve figured out a way to all be together and experience the world of fashion,” said actor Rachel Brosnahan, who flew in from New York.

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into civil rights violations and poor conditions inside Georgia prisons, including the targeting of LGBTQ inmates by prisoners and staff. On Tuesday, in a news conference, U.S. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said the Justice Department found "significant justification" to open the investigation, citing dozens of murders, stabbings and beatings, scores of smuggled weapons, and documented gang activity inside state-run prisons. Last year, 26 people in state-run prisons were killed in confirmed or suspected homicides, and 18 others have been killed this year. Additionally, an investigation by the Southern Center for Human Rights, a nonprofit law firm that monitors conditions in state prisons, last year found that inmates in Georgia state prisons had a suicide rate twice the national average, raising further red flags.

BILBAO, Spain (Reuters) – Staring impassively out from the murky waters of Bilbao’s River Nervion, the eerily lifelike face of a young girl drowning in the tide has been unsettling people in the Spanish city since she appeared unannounced last week. Bilbao residents awoke to the installation last Thursday after it was taken by boat and lowered into the river near the city centre at the dead of night. “I learnt today that’s not what it’s about, but I think people can each give their own meaning to it,” she said. ‘Bihar’ is not the first Orozco work to surprise and move Bilbao. Two years ago his life-size statue of a lone woman sitting on a park bench, ‘Invisible Soledad,’ sparked a debate about the isolated lives of the elderly.

A woman has been arrested in Northern Ireland after punching an anti-LGBTQ protester in the face at a Pride parade. A 44-year-old woman, who has not been named, approached McGeough, paused as if to say something, and then punched him in the face. Gerry McGeough has clearly fallen down the fascist rabbithole of hate as he protests at the Mid Ulster Pride event alongside Niall McConnell. Mid Ulster Pride, which organized the march, said it was unaware of the incident but was “very sorry” to hear it had happened. The anti-LGBTQ and anti-abortion campaigner said he would continue to protest LGBTQ events and the “homosexual agenda,” including another Pride event in Omagh.
