DHAKA, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - The government today released a teaser on the use of body-worn cameras during the forthcoming national polls and referendum slated for February 12, saying the cameras will help take immediate action as soon as any incident occurs. The Chief Adviser's Press Wing released the 1:59 minutes teaser tonight stating that during the elections, members of the law enforcement agencies will be equipped with body-worn cameras, while CCTV cameras will be installed at polling centres. All activities will be monitored round the clock from a control room, and immediate action will be taken as soon as any incident occurs, it said.

The Textile Innovation Exchange (TIE) has been formed under chairman of the TIE steering board Engr Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, and member secretary Engr ASM Tareq Amin, to institutionalize innovativeness across Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry as a measurable, repeatable capability. A court has issued arrest warrants against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 40 other absconding suspects in two cases over the killings of freight truck driver Md Hossain and autorickshaw driver Shobuj in Dhaka's Mohammadpur during the 2024 July Uprising. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam indicted 64 suspects in the two cases on Monday. Of them, 41 suspects were shown as "absconding" and he ordered arrest warrants against them, reports bdnews24.com. Hasina, who is currently in India, is accused in both cases. She has been registered as an "absconding" suspect in both.

RAJSHAHI, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS)- Three people, including a university student, were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi. The deceased student was identified as Shanto Islam, a student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department at Barendra University, a private university in Rajshahi. Another unidentified woman and a man also died while being taken to the hospital with injuries. Quoting eyewitnesses, police said a passenger bus heading towards Rajshahi collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw heading towards Puthia. The auto-rickshaw was completely mangled in the crash, killing student Shanto Islam on the spot.

Amid mounting criticism, Sarba Mitra announced his resignation in a Facebook post on Monday, expressing regret and claiming his actions were motivated by concern for campus safety. While the video involving children has drawn the strongest reaction, it is not an isolated case. Another student, Rashidul Ibrahim of Zia Hall, said that in November last year Sarba Mitra detained and interrogated a biker at Shaheed Minar on suspicion of carrying drugs. Later that night, he said Sarba Mitra and his associates interrogated a couple at the same location and forced him to delete photos he had taken. The incident involving Samitra Chakma happened in much the same way.”This is precisely where awareness and strong state policies are urgently needed, he added.

At least 10 journalists were injured in an attack in front of the Dream Holiday Park in Narsingdi on Monday evening, police said. Among the injured were journalists Shahed, Mohsin, Sakhawat Kausar and CRAB staff member Lal. Former CRAB vice-president Jahangir Alam said the attack occurred when a group of local miscreants demanded money after parking their bus on the roadside in front of the Dream Holiday Park following the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) Family Day. When the journalists protested, a scuffle broke out and the attackers hit them with sticks, he said. Six of the injured were taken to Dhaka after receiving primary treatment at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
