Twelve injured as Qatar Airways Dublin flight hits turbulence, airport says

The airline did not directly comment on the turbulence, but said the matter is subject to an internal investigation.

Humayun for swift implementation of projects

"Many projects of the Ministry of Industries will be completed within a short time. In his speech, Humayun instructed the officials concerned to take necessary steps for increasing the number of projects of the Ministry of Industries under the green leaf of ADP. The meeting was informed that the implementation rate of the ADP under the Industries Ministry was 46.24 percent till April, 2024 of the fiscal 2023-24 (FY24). The meeting was also informed that a total of 26 development projects are being implemented at cost of Taka 2,823.12 crore under the ADP of the Industries Ministry.

Cyclone Remal: Over 200 houses flooded as rivers rise above danger mark in Bagerhat
Due to the severe cyclonic storm Remal, all rivers in the coastal district of Bagerhat are flowing above the danger level, causing water to enter various low-lying and residential areas near the riverbanks. Before the cyclone started, more than 200 houses were flooded on Sunday afternoon in the district headquarters, Morelganj, Sharankhola, Mongla, and Rampal Upazilas or sub-districts, according to the district administration. Abu Raihan Mohammad Al-Biruni, the executive engineer of Bagerhat Water Development Board, said: “Due to the cyclone, the main rivers in Bagerhat were flowing above the danger level by Sunday afternoon. The highest rise in water level was observed in the Pasur River in Mongla Upazila. Masudur Rahman, the district officer for relief and rehabilitation in Bagerhat, said: “Local residents have started arriving at cyclone shelters in coastal Bagerhat.

Four children among 27 dead in India amusement park fire
MUMBAI, May 26, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Four young children were among 27 peoplekilled when a fire in India ripped through a crowded amusement park, policesaid, as rescuers on Sunday scoured the site the morning after the blaze. The four children reported dead were all aged under 12, said police, whowarned that many of the corpses were so badly burned it was difficult toidentify them. Jadeja added that at least 70 people, including children, were on the firstfloor when the fire broke out. An Instagram page that appears to belong to the entertainment facilityadvertises it as an amusement and theme park, where trampolining, go-karting,bowling and paintball are offered, among other recreational activities. Fires are common in India due to poor building practices, overcrowding and alack of adherence to safety regulations.

Graduates Stage Pro-Palestine Commencement Walkouts
President Martha Pollack’s final commencement speeches were interrupted by a pro-Palestine demonstration and walkout staged by the Coalition for Mutual Liberation. After entering Schoellkopf Field on Saturday, demonstrating graduates at each ceremony held up banners with messages including “Divest from genocide” and “Cornell profits from genocide.” Some graduates approached the podium with banners as Pollack began to speak. Walkouts at both ceremonies were organized by CML, a pro-Palestine coalition of over 40 on and off-campus organizations. CML is also collecting signatures from members of the Class of 2024 pledging not to donate to the University until it “no longer funds endless violence, starting with the Palestinian genocide.”A group of pro-Palestine graduates walks out of commencement. During Harvard University’s commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 23, over a thousand Pro-Palestine demonstrators walked out of the conferral of degrees in support of 13 undergraduates denied diplomas.

Biman cancels flights to Cox's Bazar, Kolkata over Cyclone Remal
Due to the effects of Cyclone Remal, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has grounded all its flights to Cox's Bazar and one flight to Kolkata on Sunday, followed by another flight to Kolkata on Monday. General Manager of Public Relations at the flag carrier, Boshra Islam, told bdnews24.com about these cancellations around 11:30 pm on Saturday. She said the Sunday evening flight (BG-395) to Kolkata and the Monday morning flight (BG-391) to the same city were also cancelled. The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into Cyclone Remal around 6:00pm. Earlier, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority ordered a suspension of river transport services, including passenger launches, in the coastal areas.
