Australia chase a rare treble, cricket eyes toehold in US market
Australia won a hat-trick of one-day World Cups between 1999-2007 and, going by their heady success in recent global events, they are close to recreating that 'golden era'. Under Pat Cummins, they won the World Test Championship title and the one-day World Cup last year - beating a formidable India in both the finals. That they run the world's richest T20 league and yet have not won a 20-overs World Cup since the inaugural edition in 2007 does not sit well with the fans. Co-hosts West Indies will also be in the reckoning having handed the coaching reins to Daren Sammy, who led them to both of their T20 World Cup titles. The ninth edition of the tournament will feature a record 20 teams, including the United States, who will be making their World Cup debut as the co-hosts of the event.

Dhaka/New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Pieces of flesh have been found in the septic tank of the apartment complex in Kolkata where Awami League parliamentarian Anwarul Azim Anar was murdered, police said today. “Some pieces of flesh have been found in the septic tank of the Sanjeeva Gardens apartment complex. It cannot be confirmed without DNA tests if they are from MP Anar’s body,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman told bdnews24.com. “How can so much flesh end up in a septic tank? I learned from the Indian police that some meat was recovered from the septic tank of the house where the murder took place on Tuesday.

Temperature rising after Remal, monsoon to arrive in next five days
The temperature has started climbing again after Cyclone Remal. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts the mercury will rise by 1-3 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. In its outlook for the next five days, the Met Office said the southwest monsoon may advance up to the Teknaf coast. The highest temperature recorded over that time was 37 degrees Celsius in Rangpur, reports bdnews24.com. The day temperature may rise by 1-3 degrees Celsius and the night temperature may fall slightly over the country.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman says that, despite identifying the killers of MP Anwarul Azim, it is not yet clear why he was killed. As US-Bangladeshi citizen Akhtaruzzaman Shaheen, who law enforcers believe is the mastermind of the murder, has yet to be arrested, police in Bangladesh and India have yet to confirm the motive, he said. The DMP chief’s comments to the media came at the opening ceremony of the ‘Database and Analysis of Road Crash’ (DARC) software training organised at the DMP headquarters on Wednesday. Habib said, “Those who were involved in the murder have already been identified. Only once he is arrested will we learn the motive for the murder.”Bangladesh does not have a prisoner extradition agreement with the United States.

India issues heatwave alert as Delhi posts record high temperature

India has been grappling with unusually high temperatures this summer, and the weather department has said "heatwave to severe heatwave" conditions are likely to continue in several parts, including the capital, through Wednesday. India declares a heatwave when the maximum temperature of a region is 4.5 C to 6.4 C higher than usual, while a severe heat wave is declared when the maximum temperature is 6.5 C higher than normal or more. Local weather stations in Delhi's Mungeshpur and Narela neighbourhoods recorded a temperature of 49.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday - an all time record for the city and 9 C above normal.
