I received a great number of positive responses to my recent Cornell Daily Sun piece, but subsequent events have evoked further thoughts on the intractable situation in Israel and Gaza. Many of the letter writers expressed outrage at President’s Pollack’s first letter and more than a few threatened to withdraw financial support from Cornell. I feel empathy for the loss of life of innocent people anywhere including Gaza, and take no joy in reading about Israel’s bombings in Gaza. In response to the largest loss of Jewish lives due to violence on one day since the Holocaust, Israel has no choice but to retaliate. The Cornell Daily Sun is interested in publishing a broad and diverse set of content from the Cornell and greater Ithaca community.

LINCOLN — Nebraska basketball’s Rienk Mast won’t play in the Huskers’ exhibition game against Doane on Sunday, coach Fred Hoiberg said, after the forward was “the unfortunate victim of a random act of violence” that occurred last week. Hoiberg announced three more Huskers won’t play in Sunday’s exhibition. Juwan Gary won’t play because of a violation of team policies. The attrition leaves Nebraska with one true big man in athletic but raw freshman Matar Diop, who Hoiberg said will likely start against Doane. Wilcher and Cale Jacobsen“There’s gonna be a lot of lineups that you probably won’t see during the regular season,” Hoiberg said.

Well, Rhule on Thursday said this is likely the only season NU will send out those locker room reveals. The head coach was coaching the scout team. It shows the players that the head coach is willing to get down and dirty. OK, actually ... the head coach also does it because he loves it. Tom’s Pick: Ugly weather, ugly division, ugly game.

The Goldwater Institute, conservative think tank, on Tuesday sent a letter to the City of Flagstaff in support of Rob Wilson, the owner of Timberline Firearms and Training. The letter comes after the city rejected a 10-second ad for Timberline Firearms that Wilson had hoped to have played on TVs in the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport. In a letter to the city, a lawyer with the Goldwater Institute alleged the rejection of the ad amounted to a violation of Wilson’s right to free speech. The controversy comes as the Flagstaff City Council is looking to update and clarify the city’s policy on advertisements. The Goldwater Institute alleges that the new policy is being created to specifically target Wilson and Timberline Firearms and Training.

The Awami League has rebuffed reports circulating on social media about a change of date for its upcoming rally at Dhaka's Baitul Mukarram National Mosque scheduled for Saturday. Sayem Khan, the ruling party's deputy office secretary, slammed the BNP for "spreading misinformation and rumours" by issuing a fake press release. "We have issued an official press release to the media about the peace rally planned by the Awami League for Saturday," he said. The ruling party's General Secretary Obaidul Quader will be the chief guest at the event. The Awami League announced the gathering in response to the BNP's 'grand rally' on the same day in Naya Paltan as part of the opposition group's movement against the government.

Bangladesh began the World Cup with a six-wicket win over Afghanistan butthereafter lost four straight matches, which sent them at the receiving end. Nonetheless, a victory against Netherlands is highly expected given the gulfof the difference between the two teams in experience and strength. Both Netherlands and Bangladesh won one match with the former's 35-runvictory against South Africa considered as one of the biggest upset incricket's history. Bangladesh came into this World Cup with an aim to reach in the semifinalsbut that hopes are dented following four straight defeats. With honour at stake, Bangladesh will be desperate to end the losing streakin World Cup to give the fans some relief.
