Freeman Schools hosted illustrator Chloe Burgett recently in the elementary media center as a part of a Hevelone grant. She told the students about her job as an illustrator hoping to inspire them to dream about their futures. “This cat that I recently drew. After reading the book, Burgett answered questions from the students before she drew an elephant with them. I thought I might want to be a cartoonist or greeting cards, but I love working with the children.”Media Specialist Becky Weyer said Teri Nieveen, another Freeman Media Specialist, had applied for a Hevelone grant.

One killed in Chandpur road accident
CHANDPUR, Oct 30, 2023 (BSS)- A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed andtwo others were injured in a head-on collision between the auto-rickshaw anda private car on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway in front of Aliganj MajumdarBari area under Haziganj upazila of the district today. The deceased was identified as CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Ruhul Amin, 40,son of Sirajul Haque, resident of Dhopalla village under Shahrasti upazila ofthe district. The accident occurred in the area when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a private car coming from the opposite direction around 8.30am,leaving the driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and injuringtwo other passengers, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haziganj Police StationMuhammad Abdur Rashid said. Among the injured, Kaniz Fatima Anika was taken to a local hospital andanother Ferdous Akhtar was sent to the National Institute of Traumatology andOrthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) for better treatment, he said. A case was filed in the connection, the OC added.

Association urges transport owners to continue services during blockade
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association has urged its members to keep services running during the three-day blockade called by the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami in protest against arrests of opposition leaders over violence. The association’s Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah said in a statement on Monday that they decided to defy the blockade in a joint meeting of transport owners and workers, reports bdnews24.com. “Goods and passenger transport will continue as usual,” he said. The association condemned the arson attacks on and vandalism of dozens of vehicles in two days of protests. Shahjahan Khan, former shipping minister and president of the Road Transport Workers Federation, chaired the meeting also attended by the owners’ association president and Jatiya Party leader Mashiur Rahman Ranga.
