Two motorcyclists killed in Satkhira road accident
SATKHIRA, Oct 27, 2023 (BSS) - Two motorcyclists were killed in a head-oncollision between their motorcycle and a bus on the Satkhira-Assasuni highwayroad in Kalerdanga area under Sadar upazila of the district today. The deceased were identified as Moyez Hossain,22, son of Arefin Sheikh,resident of Sheikhpara of Dahakula village under Assasuni upazila of thedistrict and Mohin Hossain,23, son of Nafizuddin of Rayer Mahal area ofKhulna district. The accident occurred when they were going to Brahmarajpur Bazar. The motorcycle collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite directionat around 12.30pm this afternoon leaving the duo dead on the spot, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Mahidul Islam said. A case was filed in this connection, the OC added.

45 BNP men held in N’ganj as police monitor Dhaka’s entry points
At least 45 BNP leaders and activists in Narayanganj have been detained under the old Explosives Act and on charges of sabotage, according to the police. He claimed that the police conducted overnight raids on the houses of BNP leaders and activists. However, between 10:30 am and 1 pm on Friday, there were no vehicle searches at Signboard, Mouchak, Shimrail, and Kanchpur. In addition to vehicle searches, passengers are being questioned to verify their identities before being allowed to continue their journey. Since Friday morning, law enforcement agencies have conducted searches in Aminbazar, Birulia Mirpur Road, Dhamrai’s Islampur, and Ashulia Bridge.

Woman dies in Mohakhali high-rise fire
A woman has fallen to her death in her desperation to escape a fire at a high-rise in Dhaka’s Mohakhali by using a cable. Md Ariful, a receptionist at Metropolitan Hospital in the area, said the woman was brought dead to the private facility. An onlooker tried to hold the falling woman but both were injured in the process and then rushed to the hospital. Earth Telecom and Race Online have their offices and server rooms on the eighth and ninth floors of the building. Race Online is a venture of Earth Telecom.

PM leaves Brussels for home tonight

41 fishermen held for violating Hilsha ban in Chandpur
CHANDPUR, Oct 26, 2023 (BSS)- A total of 41 fishermen arrested from the rivers of Padma and Meghna in separate drives along with current nets and mother Hilsha in the last 24-hour in the district for defying the government's ongoing a 22-day ban on Hilsha fishing. District Fisheries Office and Naval Police conducted the separate drives in the district. Kamruzzaman said, a total of 41 fishermen were arrested with 449-kg of mother Hilsha, 18 fishing boats and 20.20 lakh meters of banned current nets during the separate drives in the river Padma and river Meghna in the district. The government has imposed a 22-day ban on catching, selling, storing and transporting Hilsha, to ensure safe spawning of the Mother Hilsha, during its peak breeding period. The seized nets were destroyed and the seized Hilsha has been distributed to the orphanages and poor people in the area.

Jamaat says Oct 28 rally will be held even if police do not permit it
Jamaat-e-Islami has said it will press on with a street protest at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar even if Dhaka Metropolitan Police do not give the go-ahead. In a statement on Thursday, Jamaat called upon all its leaders and supporters to join in the rally on Saturday. Tumor, born Sean Lee Bowie in Miami, is an American musician with a cult following who has been releasing music under the Yves Tumor name since 2015. As many Cornell students have discovered the hard way, there is a big difference between making good music and being an entertaining performer. After “Jackie,” Tumor played “Gospel for a New Century,” a classic with a beautiful start-and-stop opening that first got me into their music. The 2023 Cornell Homecoming Concert ended with Tumor relaxing on stage, face covered reading the Daily Sun as students took turns on the mic.

41 fishermen jailed and 840 kgs of hilsha seized in Manikganj
A total of 77 cases were filed against the fishermen who violated the ban of hilsha fishing and 41 fishermen were jailed for the same, the DFO said. Saifur Rahman said the seized hilsha fish has been distributed among the inmates of government Shishu Paribar and madrasa students. The locals said a group of illegal hilsha hunters are active to catch the hilsha when they get chance. The sources said they remain hiding in a safe place and when the patrol boat of the Fishery Department moves to distance locations, they start to catch hilsha.
