During the 1970s, I was a teenager sexually violated and exploited by adults at the prestigious, private Key School in Annapolis. Do young people understand sexual abuse as abuse when it happens? Understanding how wrong things were at Key School is not a sudden awakening, but a long, arduous path. Until recently, we had no legal recourse to hold Key School accountable for its complicit violation, compounding our sexual abuse and institutional betrayal with judicial betrayal. I believe the antidote to institutional betrayal is institutional courage.

Sandspit Beach is a beloved recreation spot for the city's 22 million residents, as well as a critical habitat for Pakistan's endangered green turtles. Until the early 2000s, the beaches of Pakistan's Arabian coast were the nesting habitat for five endangered turtle species. Now only the green turtles come to shore to lay their eggs on just two beaches in Karachi and on uninhabited islands in Balochistan province, further down the coast towards Iran. Data on the number of green turtles is not available in Pakistan but, for the past few years, the number of hatchlings has increased. Khan said these "living dinosaurs" will continue to struggle against the accelerating urban sprawl of the city and the dangers posed by fishermen.

Newsletter SignupOn Friday, Dec. 1, comedian Joe Gatto graced the stage of the State Theatre of Ithaca. Although Gatto left Impractical Jokers in 2021, the show is still his most well-known work. My biggest takeaway from the show, however, was that no matter what the circumstances are, Joe Gatto truly is very, very funny. Joe Gatto reminds us that it’s okay to poke fun at the situation and at ourselves, and that we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously. ?” It’s Joe Gatto, and don’t you forget it.
