Four killed in city road crashes
Four persons have been killed in separate road accidents in the city, reports bdnews24.com. Two people died at Mohammadpur while the other two died in accidents in Banani and Jatrabari on Thursday night. "A covered van hit the motorbike from rear when it reached the Mayur Villa adjacent to Mohammadpur Bus Stand," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Azizul Islam. All three riders were tossed off and fell on the road with Rifat dying on the spot. Meanwhile, another pedestrian, Abul Kalam Azad, died in another road accident when an unidentified vehicle hit him on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, according to Jatrabari thana chief Forman Ali.

Russian strikes kill 16, including rescuers, in Odesa
ODESA, Ukraine, March 15, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Ukraine said Friday thatRussian forces had pounded the Black Sea port city of Odesa with missiles,killing more than a dozen people including a paramedic and a rescue worker. Local authorities said Russian aerial bombardments struck residentialbuildings, cars and a gas pipeline leaving at least 16 people dead and woundinganother 55 people, including rescuers. Yermak was apparently referring to a series of fatal Ukrainian strikes onRussian territory and several attempts by pro-Kyiv militias to gain a holdinside Russian border regions this week. There was no immediate comment on the strikes from Russia, whose forceshave routinely targeted the transport hub with drones and missiles. City officials said Moscow had targeted Odesa with the Iskander missileslaunched from the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014.

Now that the Supreme Court of Canada has ended the legal challenge several churches launched against Manitoba’s COVID-19 restrictions, a little understanding could prove an effective salve to the animosity left by the pandemic. Many faith organizations felt that religious organizations were being unfairly targeted compared to secular gatherings at restaurants or grocery stores. There’s no doubt that implementing restrictions violates Charter rights, but public health emergencies dictate the need. “Governments may appropriately subject religious gatherings to stricter regulations than certain secular activities precisely because religious gatherings pose risks that are different in degree and kind than those secular activities,” wrote the author, Misha Boutillier.
