DHAKA, May 21, 2024 (BSS) - The government today approved separate proposals for procuring some 1.10 crore liters of soybean oil and 30,000 metric tons of fertilizer to meet the growing demand of the country. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Division Secretary (Coordination and Reforms) Md Mahmudul Hossain Khan said that the day's meeting approved a total of 10 proposals. In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will procure some 1.10 crore liters of soybean oil under local Open Tender Method (OTM) from Super Oil Refinery Limited with around Taka 182.40 crore where per liter soybean oil would cost Taka 152.45. He said the meeting approved two separate proposals from the Power Division for the Lot-1 and Lot-2 of the Modernization and capacity enhancement of BPDB's power distribution system (Dhaka and Mymensingh Divisions). The meeting also approved one proposal each from the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Local Government Division.

Heavy rain caused flash flooding in parts of Butler, Saunders and other area counties Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service estimated that as much as 10 inches of rain fell in western Saunders County, while 3 to 7 inches fell over a wide area of eastern Nebraska. The Lincoln Airport received just 0.11 inches of rain, while other areas of the city reported up to half an inch. The Weather Service was reporting "moderate flooding" on the Wahoo Creek, which hit 25.2 feet early Tuesday morning, more than 4 feet above flood stage. A number of counties in eastern Nebraska, including Lancaster County, remain in a flood watch until 7 p.m. due to the potential for more heavy rain throughout the day.

He said if any contracts or corrupt activities involving his brothers could be proven, he would accept the consequences for his actions, whether as the chief of the Border Security Force or the army chief. The potential cyclone will be named Remal, a moniker given by OmanThe Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast that a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify in several phases and may turn into a cyclonic storm. A low-pressure area is likely to form over southwest Bay and adjoining areas during the next 48 hours, the Met Office said in its forecast early on Tuesday. Meteorologist Md Omar Faruq said, “The cyclone may occur and if it does, it will be named Remal. The cyclones in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are named by the World Meteorological Organisation's regional cyclone agency ESCAP. A day of state mourning has been declared on Thursday, May 23, to commemorate the death of Iranian President Raisi and others in a helicopter accident in East Azerbaijan province on May 19, the notice said. Raisi, considered a potential successor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed when his helicopter crashed in poor weather in the mountains near the Azerbaijan border on Sunday. The charred wreckage of the craft carrying Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew was found early on Monday after an extended search in blizzard conditions.
