Two men freed after 54 days in jail for X post mocking ex Jujuy governor
Two men who had been arrested for posting messages mocking former Jujuy governor Gerardo Morales and his wife, Tulia Snopek, were freed on Monday after spending 54 days in pretrial detention. Rumors surrounding this supposed affair have been circulating online and in local news outlets since the beginning of the year. The story originated after musician Mauro Coletti, a member of the Argentine folk group Los Tekis, had a car accident on October 6. That’s when Villegas and Morandini posted about it on their X accounts, as did dozens of other users. Government to ban gender-neutral language in national public bodies
The Argentine government will ban the use of gender-neutral language in national public institutions, presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said on Tuesday. The demand for gender-neutral language is prioritized by feminist, queer and nonbinary groups, who point out that the gender-binary language and the generic masculine erase their existence. Fernández, whose child is nonbinary, sometimes used gender-neutral language such as argentine in interviews. The Royal Academy of the Spanish Language (RAE) does not support gender-neutral language, as it does not consider the generic masculine to be a problem for gender equality. On Friday, Defense Ministry Luis Petri announced that he had banned gender-neutral language in the Armed Forces.

BA Province to take national government to Supreme Court in tax share dispute
Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof will take the national administration of President Javier Milei to the Supreme Court to demand that federal tax funding be restored to the province, he announced in a press conference on Monday afternoon. In decrees in Monday’s Official Gazette, the executive branch cut two funds that transferred tax revenues to the provinces. “Today, we instructed the state prosecutor of Buenos Aires Province to start judicial action in the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, and as a precautionary measure, to restore the funds they took from us,” Kicillof said in a press conference. “The fund is not for a governor or the government, it’s for the security of the people of Buenos Aires Province,” he said, to a round of applause. Chubut Governor Ignacio Torres (PRO) said Friday he would stop delivering oil and gas to the rest of the country unless his province receives its share of federal tax funds.

Every weekend for the past 16 years, the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo have hosted a TV show on Argentina’s TV Pública public channel. Madres de la Plaza had aired every Saturday since January 2008, showing interviews and news about the Mothers’ latest activities, including the historic Thursday marches around the Pirámide de Mayo monument in Plaza de Mayo. The decision to cancel their show did not come as a surprise, since Milei has been clear about his plans to shut down Argentina’s public media, the mothers said. The privatization of some of those public channels was included in Milei’s omnibus bill, which collapsed during congressional debate three weeks ago due to a lack of support from lawmakers. “We will continue [marching] around Plaza de Mayo, and we will see his damned government end.”
