CNN‘s senior international correspondent Frederik Pleitgen and his team crossed the border into Iran on Thursday and are now headed to Tehran. CNN said it was the first U.S. network to enter the country since the start of the war. Pleitgen appeared on CNN riding in a vehicle, telling viewers that the Iranian government had granted a visa and to report from there. We also don’t know what the situation on the road to Tehran is going to look like, how many checkpoints there’s going to be. The United States and Israel are continuing their huge aerial campaign against targets inside of Iran.

The Bruins visit Nashville for a brief, one-game road trip prior to Friday’s trade deadline. After a trying start to the season, the Predators are hanging around the wild card race in the Western Conference. These two teams played at TD Garden in late January, a 3-2 OT win for the Bruins. The longtime Lightning captain had 53 points in 82 games for Nashville last season; this year, he’s already up to 47, including 30 goals, in just 61 games. On the Bruins front, we’re mostly just waiting to see what happens at the trade deadline at this point.

President Donald Trump has spent months touting his planned White House ballroom, but this week the public gets its first chance to formally offer him their thoughts. The White House has said it plans to begin above-ground construction of the ballroom as soon as next month, following the panels’ reviews. But nothing has struck a chord online like the idea of the president demolishing the East Wing last year, she said. It’s not his personal property.”A number of former White House staffers also weighed in. It’s something like double the size of the rest of the White House.

Nobody can say how the US-Israeli war on Iran will play out, let alone what will happen to Iran once hostilities end. Yet even with Khamenei gone, Iran's regime is still fully functional with veteran politician Ali Larijani at the helm. In the early stages of the war, Trump called on the Iranian army, Revolutionary Guard and police to lay down their weapons. In this scenario, Iran's army and Revolutionary Guards could end up in different and perhaps even opposing political camps, which could spark civil war. After all, five Kurdish organizations joined forces to collectively confront Iran's regime just one week before the war began.

Discovery will put two of the most storied journalism brands — CNN and CBS News — under one roof. For years, Trump has made CNN the poster child of his “fake news” claims and impugned many of its journalists. Weiss wasted no time taking on the prestigious CBS news magazine “60 Minutes,” which has long been a stubbornly independent operation. The parent companies of CBS and CNN have discussed merging or sharing news-gathering operations and on-air talent numerous times over several decades. There was even a proposal in 2018 for him to helm “CBS Evening News” while keeping his nightly prime time program on CNN.

In summary Unions for California Highway Patrol officers and Cal Fire firefighters are asking the state for a new retirement option that would complement their CalPERS pensions. Separately, one deferred retirement plan in Los Angeles allowed cops to gain seven-figure payouts while claiming disability and not working. Late-career CHP officers and Cal Fire firefighters would stop making contributions from their paychecks toward their pensions and instead put money in the deferred retirement plan. CalPERS would manage the deferred retirement plan and guarantee participants a 5% return. Their deferred retirement proposal leaves some room for union bargaining and it’s unclear how much it would cost.

LOADING ERROR LOADINGHundreds of voters in two Texas counties reported being turned away from polling stations and forced to go elsewhere during Tuesday’s primaries. There was confusion about what precinct folks were in, because redistricting shuffled everything,” Emily Eby French, an attorney for Common Cause Texas, told HuffPost. We did a good job of explaining the process to our voters,” Dallas County GOP Chair Allen West told NBC News. Due to the confusion, judges extended the hours for some polling stations in both Dallas and Williamson counties. However, this specific issue isn’t expected to affect the midterm elections in Texas because the change in procedure only applied to primaries.

Leaders of California, Arizona and Nevada are criticizing the Trump administration’s proposals for water cutbacks along the Colorado River, urging it to take a different approach and avoid a court battle . AdvertisementThat agreement split the water among four upstream states — Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico — and those downstream — Nevada, Arizona and California. AdvertisementIf the Upper Basin states fail to deliver the required water, the Lower Basin states could make a “compact call” by suing, top Arizona water official Tom Buschatzke said in his letter to the Trump administration. One key complaint by California, Arizona and Nevada centers on Glen Canyon Dam , the reservoir that forms Lake Powell on the Utah-Arizona border. California’s Imperial Irrigation District, which uses the single largest share of Colorado River water, said the federal government needs to examine how water cuts would affect the Salton Sea.

Under Van Hollen’s proposal, workers making at or below a “living wage” — $46,000 for taxpayers filing individually, or $92,000 for married couples filing jointly — would not have to pay federal income taxes. Tens of millions of additional middle-class workers would also receive a tax cut under the proposal, but they would still have to pay taxes. Fifteen Senate Democrats are co-sponsoring Van Hollen’s proposal, though it has no chance of passing in a Republican-controlled Congress. Though the 2028 presidential primaries have not yet begun, Van Hollen’s proposal reflects the early jockeying around the ideas the party should run on. The “living wage” below which nobody would pay taxes is defined by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology index and would rise with inflation under Van Hollen’s proposal.

My grandmother had not only experienced a great trauma, but she soon discovered she was pregnant with her abuser’s child. AdvertisementMy father, William Jovino, was born later that year, and together, Josephine and baby Billy, as he was affectionately called, returned to Brooklyn to live with Josephine’s parents. Seventy-nine years later, Short has been passed to my older brother, my mother, my brother’s wife, my 4-year-old nephew and me. AdvertisementSix years later, when I was taking a computer research class in middle school, I was tasked with making a family tree. It turns out more than one Cecil Short was enlisted during World War II, which made things more complicated than I expected.
