As the population continues to get older, more adults are becoming solo agers during their golden years. “Solo agers have been shown to be as healthy and happy as other older adults and live just as long,” Sara Zeff Geber, PhD., an aging expert and author of “Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers,” told Fox News Digital. What is solo aging? Among adults aged 50 or older, approximately 12% of them are considered “solo agers,” according to a 2021 AARP report. Approximately half of solo agers have an advance directive — and only 44% have shared it with their primary care doctor, according to AARP.

The guide provides recommendations that can be implemented by police departments of any size, regardless of location or funding, to create dedicated Behavioral Threat Assessment Units. Steven Driscoll, assistant chief of the National Threat Assessment Center, explained that providing local agencies with a “structured approach” would increase safety in communities across the country. While the Secret Service did not disclose why the report was released at this time, it follows two recent assassination attempts on former President Trump and a notable rise in political violence in the past few years. The Secret Service stressed that the motivation behind targeted violence is diverse, and profiling based on race, ethnicity, age, or gender should not be used to create attacker profiles.

This week’s Hunter’s moon is about to get supersized
In the wee hours of Thursday morning, Angelenos will get their first peek at a double whammy astrological delight — a Hunter’s moon that also happens to be a supermoon. The full moon in October is known as the Hunter’s moon because it takes place around the start of hunting season and traditionally offered a key opportunity to spot prey lurking in recently harvested fields, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. A supermoon occurs when the full moon is at its closest possible point to Earth, which causes it to appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than the faintest moon of the year, according to NASA. Alarcon recommends people try watching it around sunset on Friday, when it will rise from the Eastern horizon and appear especially supersized.
