Psychologist behind the controversial ‘Stanford Prison Experiment’ dies at 91Dr. Philip Zimbardo attends the "The Stanford Prison Experiment" premiere on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, in New York. Philip G. Zimbardo, the psychologist behind the controversial “Stanford Prison Experiment” that was intended to examine the psychological experiences of imprisonment, has died. Stanford University announced Friday that Zimbardo died Oct. 14 at his home in San Francisco. In the 1971 prison study, Zimbardo and a team of graduate students recruited college-aged males to spend two weeks in a mock prison in the basement of a building on the Stanford campus. The experiment is now used in psychology classes to study the psychology of evil and the ethics of psychological research with human subjects, Stanford said.

The family of a missing Broadway dancer whose credits include “Hamilton” and “MJ The Musical” is expanding its search beyond the South Carolina hiking trailhead where authorities found his car earlier this month. Zelig Williams, 28, was last seen on October 3 at his home in Columbia, according to a statement from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The family filed a missing person report the following day after he failed to contact them, the department said. We’ve searched that area ourselves on foot more than once, and now we’re looking to expand our search,” said Corbett-Jacobs. “He told me when he danced, he feels his sisters with him,” Kathy Williams told Blackwell.

— Rural Inyo County was one of two California counties to vote for Biden in 2020 after supporting Trump in 2016. The last time rural Inyo County backed a Democrat for president was in 1964, when voters chose Lyndon B. Johnson. Considering Trump carried Inyo County by 13 percentage points four years earlier, it was quietly one of the most dramatic red-to-blue flips in the country. When Trump ran in 2016, just over 41% of registered voters in Inyo County were Republicans — a 10-point advantage over Democrats. In Inyo County, about 34% of the newcomers came from Los Angeles or Orange counties, according to the data.

Takeaways from AP's reporting on how Arizona voters view the economy with the election close at handMESA, Ariz. -- The Arizona economy by many measures is flourishing, but it doesn't feel that way for a lot of voters in the presidential battleground state as they consider their choices on Nov. 5. Voters are hearing Democrats and Republicans promise to help the middle class if they win. But voters have heard that before and, in the view of many, nothing got better. That disconnect is vivid in Arizona, where housing and other costs have spiked. More people moved into the area rather than its cities and at rates that exceeded housing supply, pushing prices up in ways that made mortgage rates of 6%-plus troubling.
